Last time I buy anything reman. from autozone.driving my bee today ammeter went nuts radio started popping pulled into nearest parking lot (ironic)and watched fusible link burn along with battery feed from relay.after having car towed home i figure out the alternator fried.should have known.never had one go bad and burn anything up.looks like mad upgrade time.feel lucky it wasn't worse.

Ouch... Nice car glad it wasn't worst. I've never had any problems with stuff from them only complaints with some of their employees being so car dumb...and thinking everything is built by chebby.. you know my chevy roadrunner and my dads chevy mustang...

Did AutoZone rebuild it? I was wondering cause I just got one there. They gave me 2 choices, a 45 amp and a 50 amp. The 50 amp came with a life time warranty, but the 45 was like 90 days. They warned me that the people who they get them from Don't do as good as they used to rebuilding them. That made me think they Don't rebuild them, but might have more luck with some over others. Our AutoZone here is great, but our K.F.C. sucks.

That's why they have lifetime warranties! You're replacing them all of the time! Glad you didn't lose the car because of it!

Sorry about your car, Bee383. Did you get a free tow via Hagerty Insurance? If so, how did that go?

I keep wondering why car guys will buy anything at Autozone, they know nothing about cars.Napa is still the best company to deal with.

So you think Napa doesnt sell the same crap? All the same crap just different packaging.

Thanks guys.the alternator was a reman model I bought about 6 months Ago.it was a dual field 65 amp model.i had one of the fields grounded.i do have hagerty but didn't even think about the tow coverage at the time.gonna try to get them to reimburse me.good luck with that.moparsteve is right about the lifetime crap.the 1st one i picked up didn't last a month.this is the 2nd one.lesson learned.

Alternators are simple beasts to rebuild. People rebuild their own engines but buy chinkesium alternators and starters. I find it hard to figure out.

For some stuff, I agree, for others, no. My father-in-law owns his own auto parts store/speed shop. The biggest thing to watch out for is electronics. Most OEM stuff is actually made by Standard or other reputable companies. Some of the electronics sold by AZ and others are cheap stuff that they sell for a couple of dollars less, but with much inferior build quality.

On another note. Notice the original post "Watched fusible link burn". THIS is why you always want to include a fusible link when restoring a car. To many guys don't even know what one is, or take a short cut and throw a solid wire in there 'cause they don't want to spend the couple of dollars for a proper fusible link. The end result can be disastrous. Thankfully Bee383 and the rest of us can still enjoy his car and it only had minimal damage. An ounce of prevention...

I don't have much to add other than really cool car bee. Very nice, and I'm glad it's okay.

Oh, and I agree that fusible links are there for a reason...

I wont buy Autozone Dura-Crap parts again. They are built, or re-built to a price point. NOT a quality point! Free replacement for life means **** when it can cause other damage, or having to do the job twice. Front-end parts are the worst! I bought a tie-rod end that didn't last 6000 miles. Free replacement means nothing when the alignment job costs $70! Too bad that NAPA is now in the same boat. They had to cheapen their line to compete with AZ, and the others. I've always tried to support my local guys, but I can now go on Amazon and order Moog for the nearly the same price as their crap. As far as electrical, In the Detroit area, may i give a shout-out to Marv's Auto Electric. http://marvsautoelectric.com/services.html Best service around.

I've had some starters and alternators done here, always real good work.Fondy Auto Electric in Appleton WI

When I took the alt back to get checked this 20 some year old girl with tattoos that tested it didn't even give me a sorry.after I quit bitching about all the damage it caused she asks me if I want another one?i took the damn thing but not sure i want to put it on.

Not true. All the discount auto parts stores electrical stuff is Chinese junk. The best electrical items are at Napa.
