my starter from auto zone was Mexico not china,,LOL
I agree completely. If you go to a part store and buy a rebuilt alternator, starter or whatever for your 50 year old car you are buying a rebuild made out of mostly 50 year old parts. At least if you rebuild it yourself you know what you have, and if you are careful and use quality parts it will probably be better than a rebuild that you get at a parts store. That said, I understand that not everyone has the time or ability to rebuild their own stuff, so at least try to find the best rebuild that you can. Or better yet take the part to a local rebuilder if you can find a good one. Up here I use Whatcom Electric in Bellingham to rebuild starters, alternators and even an occasional generator and their quality is outstanding. Any major metro area should have a rebuilder. Ask the local shops.Alternators are simple beasts to rebuild. People rebuild their own engines but buy chinkesium alternators and starters. I find it hard to figure out.
I wont buy Autozone Dura-Crap parts again. They are built, or re-built to a price point. NOT a quality point! Free replacement for life means **** when it can cause other damage, or having to do the job twice. Front-end parts are the worst! I bought a tie-rod end that didn't last 6000 miles. Free replacement means nothing when the alignment job costs $70! Too bad that NAPA is now in the same boat. They had to cheapen their line to compete with AZ, and the others. I've always tried to support my local guys, but I can now go on Amazon and order Moog for the nearly the same price as their crap. As far as electrical, In the Detroit area, may i give a shout-out to Marv's Auto Electric. http://marvsautoelectric.com/services.html Best service around.
