Need some info....383 stock bore and stroke (originally a 10.1 engine-1967) out of the box Source 440 heads, Holley Street Dominator intake, Carter Competition 750, Purple cam 238/[email protected]/280-0.474, 110degree overlap,Pertronix conversion with 45K coil, Headman headers 1 3/4", automatic trans with 2500 converter and manual shift valve body, 8 3/4" with 3.23:1 gears and SS springs and correct shocks(25"). I don't want to get into bottom end changes, just want to get it together and drive it for now, there could be a 440 in the future. What do you think I can expect with this set up?

Not sure what you looking for, Just guessing... As is maybe 400hp, with that current cam, compression, headers, intake/carb & un-ported Stealth Heads... If you port the heads & intake, use proper springs & valve-train components, get a set of 1-7/8" long tube headers with the proper collectors, bump the compression up some for the aluminum heads, balance the bottom end, lighten up some rotating mas, maybe a better carb {no specifics mentioned on the current set up} & tuned properly for specific parts 450-475hp maybe even as high as 500hp range...

No matter what you do to the motor, the 3.23 gear is the choker.3.91 or 4.10 really help things out.Save your $$$ and build the 512 we talked about.Really even with the 4.10 and that 383 you are looking at a 13second combo.

I have a 750 Carter Competition carb, nothing has been done to it. I wanted to get an idea as to what I will have with the combo. I may be building a 440 for the car so I can't see doing a great deal to this engine other than bolt on
goodies and tuning.

I am doing something similar with my 67 Belvedere II. That is a good street combo. If you are not a hardcore racer, bolt it together and have some fun until you get the 440 built.
To paraphrase Ray Charles, "let it do what it do." The seat time will be more valuable to you.
Enjoy

:iamwithstupid: different gears would help performance with any engine combo...

Just order my stick for the 512 build. Was going to use Comp Cam XR286HR but ordered custom Comp Cam hydraulic roller stick that specs 230/236 @ .050, advertised 281/286 with 622/625 lift w/1.6 rockers. I want a tame sounding factory appearing beast. Should be good with combination below:
950 HP holley
Stealth heads
Weiand Action Plus #8009 intake
Crane 1.6 rockers
10.5:1-11:1 compression
3000 stall
3:23 geared 8.75 w/sure grip
What do you think? I cannot wait to get it assembled and in my 66 Sat.

what do you plan to use it for ?

Sounds like a decent combo, Is it going to be a street driven, street/strip or strictly race engine combo?, are the heads & intake, box stock or ported ?, what has been done to the 950cfm HP Holley ?, Just my opinion but, that's a lot of cam, for that 3000rpm converter stall & especially 3.23:1 gears... Good luck, keep us posted...

Budnicks,
It will be street driven with the occassional track day for fun. I have not bought the convertor yet, just kinda what I was thinking. Holley is pretty much out of the box. The intake and heads are ported, gasket matched, and valves back cut. Rotating assembly is 4.25 crank with 7.1 rods and BBC journals. Will be using TTI or Hooker 2" primary with 3.5 collector and TTI 3" exhaust. I am hoping for a playful 550-575 streetable horsepower with 625+ tq. I appreciate your input this is my first MOPAR build.
So far I have changed every floor pan in the car and only have one left(trunk pan) and then it goes to the paint and body shop.

Sounds great...

Sounds great for a street car, 575hp should be no problem tuned properly, the 3.23:1 will be user friendly on the hwy's... But I would say for performance or not too much freeway driving, a set of around 28" tall rear tires & 3.73:1 gears {is a decent compromise, for all around driveability & performance} & a 3200-3500rpm stall would be a closer/better matched & still very driveable, to the camshaft you have chosen... In my opinion....

Dayam, got a 318 with less than that in it and it ran a 13.70 with a 4.10 but the car was only 3150....but it had a bone stock converter in it too. I would hope that 383 would spank it!

Thats what I was thinking too but what do I know....:pottytrain3:

What kind of ET's you think this combination will do in a factory appearing 1966 Satellite? I am hoping low 12's in street trim.
