I am having trouble firing up my stock 318 with some ignition upgradeswhich include msd 6al box, mechanical distributor, and a 340 cam. I began diagnosing and came to a conclusion of not having a spark. I proceeded to check my coil, and noticed that it doesn't read any voltage at all even with the key on. It only reads a ground on both terminals. I am led to believe I may have a bad msd box since all the wiring is correct and receiving power. Anybody have any similar issues or ideas to test my 6al box? Want to get this ride back on the road pronto!

Is the ballast out of the circuit?

What leads that used to go to the ballast now go to the 6AL box?

Year/model of car? Original wiring harness?

This info will help to get going in the right direction.

The vehicle is a 72 plym. Satellite with original wiring harness besides No ballast resistor in the circuit in the circuit. I am able to bypass it with the 6al and dizzy I am running. What I did end up finding is that my 6al box was being grounded by the plate it is bolted on to. After removing it from the plate, I tested the box by jumping it with a paper clip n found spark the the wires. Still, I see a sputter as opposed to a backfire, coming out of the carb when I pump it and try to fire it up. Is my carb 180* off?

Finally figures it out. Was on the wrong tdc thus the sputtering. Good to hear her breath again!
