I bought this RR horn years ago and never installed. I was told it was NOS but I wanted to verify with you all to confirm before I put it up for sale. It did not have a decal but I found one on ebay that was said to be NOS also. Here are the pics. It does say sparton on the horn. Also what years used the black horn like this one.?

The bracket is short. What was the application for,the long bracket then. I thought the long bracket was on 68-70 road runners??

The long bracket was used from 68 to 70. Seems that 71 was a transition year to the shorter bracket, while 72 and up were all the shorter brackets. For 68, the horn was black without the decal. Assembly line horns will have a 3 digit date code for the month and year.

If that is NOS, it was stored with extreme care all these years.

If is actually restored, whoever did it made a damn fine job of it. No visible runs in the paint or build-up on the edges. Nice one.

So now I am confused. What year is it correct for.? I have a box but the label was torn off. BTW, Not perfect some small chips in paint

Hi Richard I have only seen 71's with the long bracket. My late built 7/71 Road Runner still has the original long Bracket horn on it so I agree with the transition to the short ones in '71 but for the 72 models as I have never seen an original long bracket horn on a '72. Nice to see you post hope all is well with you!

I don`t think it is a assembly line horn but if it has a date code where would it be? I just changed the listing as unknown application since I can`t really verify..

As stated above by others - BLACK is for 1968 only.
It wasn`t the black that confused me, it was the long bracket vs short but it doesn`t take much to confuse me. LOL

Note that the bracket is also threaded for a bolt. 68/69/70, at least, all have a clearance hole and the bolt threads into the radiator support. This one is for a car with a clearance hole and the bolt threads into the horn bracket.
