Not a good way to end the summer

One time my plastic timing chain gear broke and i bent several valves on a bone stock 383. I replaced the chain like you did and it ran rough. I wound up replacing several valves and lapped them in. Then,Kind of a long story, lol I sold my 68 Plymouth Satellite to a guy who changed the cam to a Mopar purple cam and Took it out to the drag strip. He launched it and the timing chain sprocket came loose. (beveled washer was installed backwards). That time it bent push rods but not valves. After he did that I bought it back from him. I sold that car 2 times. I plan on keeping it now.

Well well, looky what i found here on #7 exhaust....

Ordered a set of rods on Jeg's.

Silly question: Do I replace all or just the one bent one?

For your stock application older motor I would just replace the bent ones.

Ok Condor74

Thanks for your input. I only found the one bent pushrod. All others appeared to be straight.

Is there any harm in just replacing them all since the cover is off of best to leave the good ones alone?

Well replaced the bent rod, still not running to well so I guess it's time to pull the heads. Would like to know your thoughts and what others have done in similar situations? Originally wanted to keep it stock but now If I have to pull the heads anyway maybe spice it up a bit. Just would look to add a few horses without breaking the bank. Or maybe just pull the engine and have it gone through. Any good Mopar guys in central MA?

I don't know the history or the mileage on the motor but I would probably pull the heads and figure out which valves are bent and repair as necessary. Might be good to have a full valve job at this point.

If you think the motor is very high mileage and or tired or worn a full rebuild may be your best bet.

As far as similar situations. I have been in the exact same boat. I replaced the valves . The main difference was I worked in a shop that had valve grinding and seat grinding equipment. I replaced the bent valves myself.
