not to sound rude

When I got my 65 Coronet in 99' I would notice others cars and wonder how they got their car so nice. Well after all these years I have gotten it looking pretty good. I still have a few more things to do but that comes with time.

I look for bargins or trade for the parts I need. I try and do all the work myself. I like telling people when they ask about the car that I did the work. I can't do body/paint so I did have to write a check for that.

I have been nickle and diming my car since 2005.
Whatever and whenever the slush fund will allow.
In my sixth year,I am getting closer to getting it back to being in one piece.
Mechanical parts are not the problem-that's easy.
Building a car that has almost NO repop slows it down when you want only the best used or NOS trim parts.
The thrill of the hunt is a big part of the hobby,IMO.The people you meet and friends you make along the way are invaluable.

Trading parts, bartering services, travel 6 hours through three states to pick up free parts--you name it I did it.
That's why my project is called "Barge on a Budget"
The legacy of a C body being restored...

took me 2.5 years to build my last motor. i do the best i can, work hard and try to stimulate the economy. sometimes i go overboard but i like to buy the best parts so to avoid big problems down the road.
the old saying is"its too expensive to buy cheap".
i learned that the hard way.

I have sold ,traded, bought, sold, traded, bought, sold, traded, and so on and on and on and on to get the car I want and parts I need or the cash to buy them. It is fun but sometimes frustrating but its what we do to stay on a budget and stay in the hobby we love. I always say beg, steal and borrow to drive a Mopar.

$$$$$$$

Well, I hate to say this, but the wife IS actually right about my car budget. IF I sold the Harley,IF I thinned out the pair of gun safe contents, IF I could live without all the toys......... I`d have a nice 65 Coronet 500 with a Hemi under the hood. Am I going to be banned for the wife comment ?

I provide my own labor, hunt down deals on oem parts and sell off what I don't need to recoup cost on the stuff I do need. Oh yeah, and I never had kids!!!

Most car guys I know try to budget their "fun money" so that they can do stuff to their cars. I nickle and dime my way through builds. It would be nice to have unlimited money but I have to live within my means and do what the Federal Government can't do, live within a budget.

Not really anything i can add everyone said it all. Its time consuming thats why elsewhere ive said so many times i cant stand someone looking at any of my cars and simply put by simple people, "wow, that shouldn't take but a couple 3 weeks or so " Takes time, selling things, trading things, going without things and lots of Patience. Its a dream, the strong survive the quitters quit. Ive had a dream car in the making for 20 years, to this point i don't have anything even relating to it. I live in a 14-70 mobile home way out in the woods, 2 acres of ground and nothing but woods all around me, across the road a plant-able field thats usually corn, my point? A rich man may stop by and wonder just what little can one man have and survive. I love the peace and NOT putting up with everyone telling me i have nothing and they have there large homes and fancy this that and the other thing. so, you do what you have to do to get what you want. its all up to us and no one can help us but us, and the Lord over head. Take your time someday you'll look back on all this and smile. obviously your not quitting and giving up and i hope all everyone has said here pushes you onwards with more vigor and strength.

Well, I'm one of those guys that is writing a check for things but is learning in the process as I find local Mopar guys and am involved in the work. 10 years ago I didn't have a pot to piss in. I got my much deserved break in life and made the most of it. Now I make good money, but I will not apologize for that. I worked my *** off to get what I have and made many sacrifices for it. I know where my talents are. I am fortunate enough to be able pay a competent person to do the work and do it right. I feel it is a privilege to own my car and I don't want to screw it up by my own incompetence. I've waited too long to get here and I am probably too impatient for the progress. I can't stand that there is a nice day and the car is not ready or where I'd like it, I want to drive it. I will say that I will not own a trailer queen. I could never stand to own a great car, but be too afraid to get it dirty to drive it. The guy that gave me my break in life owns a lambo but never drives it. That would make me crazy. I would never get out of that car, except to be thrown in jail for driving too fast. I admire all those on this forum who do unbelievable work on these beautiful cars and restore then to better than new condition. We all take different paths through life according to our upbringing and personal situations, Never be ashamed of your own path.

Everything with older cars is on a budget for most people. I shop alot for deals on things I need for the car. I have been lucky as far as getting nickle dimed by my hot rod. I just do maint all the time and check things out after every time out.Life is on a budget anymore!!

Got a email message this AM, now trying to figure out again now how to finance a new project, Friend last summer found two matching 65 bel.. in a old barn and now might sell one..Always the how we coming up with cash thing with the cars we do. ongoing for everyone. One thing to get the car then it never stops when doing it, hence the sometimes 10-15 year old project. Budget with economy the way it is hurts everyone with no end in site at least for the good.
