Noticing a rapid decline in parts interest?

I'm sure Buyers are getting stiffed as well, and I have noticed that there seems to be a large number of questionable people working Ebay, which makes it hard for an honest person to sell and buy. When I sell on Craigs list, I always speak to the buyer, multiple times, so we get to know each other better. If I get bad vibes, or don't trust the person, I don't sell the part. It is too bad that it has to come down to that.
Man, as a buyer...I always get stiffed by ebay. Sellers never have bad feedback.

Where have all the car guys gone?

I believe that All of the reasons mentioned above are true. Ebays changes,(they Do suck!), repro parts, etc. But, I am also noticing alot fewer people starting or even interested in doing a Project Car, compared to 10-20 yrs. ago. Anyone who has been watching Mecom or BJ this year have seen prices on a restored classic (not a rare one) drop like a rock! I've seen some great restored cars, and trucks, going for under 25k. and you all know it's not even half of what they put in it. I think the stock market got, made their money, then got out.

image.jpgimage.jpg First picture, repopped mirror and gasket. Second picture, Ma Mopar OEM mirror and gasket. The repop pitted and the goddam gasket keeps purging, morphing, or whatever the hell it is doing. I get black slopped **** in the paint no matter what I do.
Some - not all - repopped stuff is not the same as the original. Who has the time, money, or resilience to deal with a resto today? Too many nice done cars around for a good price.

In May of 1969, some Pollack at Lynch road assembled this mirror and gasket. 46 years later, it is a crisp as day one. WTF.

It's towards the end of the season
People are more interested in finished cars
Majority of youngsters want all the bells and whistles and not a 60's car with few power options
Majority of youngsters don't know or care to know how to work on old iron
Between age and the government...this 'sport is declinning a day at a time.

AND , at least in the WNY area....alot of the old guys are selling their old cars and buying new stuff...the dummies take them to cruises/shows, pop the hood and sit there grinning like they have somthing special. If I want to see new vettes/mustangs/camaro's/challengers....I'll go to the mall

I've got an original '72 and it looks like crap. Even then, some were good some were not as good.

At the risk of offending some, do you have proof that the ones done by Pollacks were better than those done by Wops or Yugo's or Kikes or whatever?

No proof. Term of endearment. Speculate it was a male whose forefathers came to the USA without the welfare net. When it took balls to survive and feed your family.

And one row over from the old timers new car.... are the new owners of their old one....showing off their "bought not built" classic!

My belief is that people are tired of "shopping" on EBay. I even stopped looking at bid items because everyone uses a snipe now.
Back in the day before " will fit", when I first purchased my 67 Charger, I had 66-67 Charger bookmarked and I would look through EBay regularly just to see who was selling what.
Now, it comes up with thousands of screw sets, books on how to install something, curb feelers, universal hoses, etc. I don't bother anymore. I still use EBay as the prices are sometimes very good, but now I search the exact item, check "Buy It Now", "In US", then lowest price with "Free shipping".
No more window shopping so to speak.
But that is what I think. That "Will Fit: option is the worst thing they ever added to EBay and eventually will kill it. Just my 2 cents anyway.

WELL SAID!!! I'm lucky.... my car doesnt really need anything!! :eusa_pray: but when I was working on the Cougar, Chevelle, and Mustangs.... good grief you had to wade through page after page of the JC Whitney of ebay through the junk. Its a pain!

Rick is right as well. Take these two guys merge the comments and you have your answer imo

This world is not the world any of us were born into. The place has changed ALOT in the just the last 40 years where it hardly changed at all for a hundred years before that. I blame Steve Jobs. The two things that have had the most impact are Global instant everything, and the rise in world population. I read that we outstripped the planets resources for this year already with 4 months to go yet. I believe it wont be zombies, or a virus that takes us down, it will be food and water wars. If you don't already live in a place that's not real popular with everybody else then get your butt in gear. You will have less folks to fight later...lol.

Yep, and the world my Grandparents were born into was nothing like the world my parents were born into, which was nothing like the world I was born into which was nothing like the world that my kids were born into....

Truer words cannot be spoken.

It's called E-Scam for good reasons

Yep !!

now we just have way too many freeloaders, sanctuary cities & rampant govt. corruption

sorry just had to point that out...

^^THIS^^ Ebay has changed so much that it's almost useless trying to search. The dammend "application" crap that pops up in a listing makes it so that searching is nearly impossible for specifics.

I hate ebay, or rather "what it has become." They need to back up about 10 years and start over.

Been doing pretty good on some of the mopar related sale pages on facebook. The mopar trader page has over 30k members and you get like 30 hits in the 1st 10 minutes if its something good.I also do good on FABO as well.

Ahhhh I see you're a liberal instead? (I'm taking the odds of 38-58%) :sunny: Took the first instinct to determine it was meant "negative". Nossir.... in fact you are 100% wrong! on it being an "INSULT". I found it funny you live in an area near what he described. nothing more. I do take offense that Canada become "hick" I thought that was left up to us hillbilly's.

I sold parts pre-Ebay,(1983-2002) and it was really more fun. I advertised in Mopar collectors guide, people called me up, we determined we both could work together. The buyer sent a money order, then I sent the part. it took longer, But I never had one bad experience. I miss those days. Now I don't let anyone come around, and have to really grill them before I will do anything for them. On the good side, there are a lot of Good Mopar people around,in Canada, Europe, and the U.S.
