Oh no... say it 'ain't so

Agreed. And I don't care how much you "need a check" , there is such a thing as holding on to your dignity, morals and principle; Mr petty seemed to have sold his. And this latest atrocity/slap in the face shown here is just the icing on the cake.
Albeit I still respect his career & his 200 wins as a driver too

that other crap is purely for the $$$, cashing out on a family legacy
he is getting old, he's selling out
he is 87 born in July of 1937

In all due respect, he was the one who made the Petty legacy, his dad I will admit put him in the driver's seat, and never let him win a race they both competed in, but Richard earned his wins, and he can cash in on it any way he wants, at any age IMO, and he owes me nothing.

I must disagree... [and I told myself I wasn't going to wade in on this again...]
Yes, he has free will and may do whatever he wishes, but selling out, becoming PC and metaphorically spitting on the group of folks who put you where you are, whilst certainly in his prerogative, still causes a complete erasure of respect from me. Personal dignity and principles, remembering where you came from and respecting tradition is more important in the big picture than 'getting along' and bending/blending to fit the current narrative/curry favour with the current 'powers that be'/getting a big payday. It sullies the family name.
ymmv

Where we disagree here I suspect is, and not that I disagree much with your above noted standards, I just don't expect others to meet my standards, if I did, I would have very few interactions.
