i have a 440 with 452 casting heads and the mopar performance aluminum valve covers i have horrible oil leak when driving i have put silicone on the valve cover and tightened the bottom bolts first as have heard these are must do's i have heard that the 440's can be a bear to vent properly i have a breather on the driver side and a pcv on the pass. side i even took out the pcv and put a breather on the pass. side made no diff. the oil even seems to look like it is coming out around all the valve cover bolts????????????? im stumped and at the end of my patience

get yourself some steel valve covers and some nice thick gaskets. youre about the 56millionth...789 thousanth person to have this problem.you wanna know why theyre leaking?

aluminum expands MORE than steel when the same heat is applied,,,thus,,,a leak. i had aluminum covers on my old car...and so did everyone i knew at the time and ALL of them leaked like a sieve !. i have steel covers on my car now and noooooo leaks. aluminum valve covers are like headers.....they look cool but they're a ROYAL pain in the *** !

Yeah and if you over torqued the aluminum valve covers straighten those will be practically impossible.

But to be fair to headers, you get a lot better HP boost out of headers than you get from aluminum valve covers. :)

Trick with aluminum covers is to really glue the gaskets to the covers and seal the knotches. I use the Felpro black high temp gaskets, not the cork ones. I don't use any sealer on the head side for easy removel. Been doing this since the 70's with no leaks. I hate leaks.

What HE said!!!

Same here! Ya got to know how to make the stuff work if you don't want them to be a RPITA. Same with headers. My last set of tubes were on my 71 Cuda for nearly 15 years!! Hi-po parts are usually never just a put em out of the box and slap em on kind of deal.... :headbang:

The Felpro 1612 will stop your leak.

Yeppers. Thats why alot of people don't like Holley carbs. They buy a 1850 or 3310 thinking its a out of the box bolt and go thing. They are not. Need to do some tuning for you motor.

They are made with a hard rubber, which is molded over and vulcanized to a rigid steel frame. They are very nice. Chevy guys had these for years now mopar guys finally have them.

I use felpro header gaskets with Mr gasket header bolt lock washers and I haven't had any header leaks for almost a year and half. I ran this same combo on another car for yrs and never had a problem with leaks.

Cast aluminum M/T type :) That's almost always the first purchase I'll make for a new engine. Easy to seal up, and they stay sealed. That's the main reason I love em

thanks to all

thanks everyone i bought the morosso valve cover gaskets (they are steel with rubber coating) and put them on this am and drove all day seems to be great

I am going to give the moroso ones a try next time I change out. I have the 1612's and like them but did note a small leak from one corner could just be sealant gap or hole. But always looking for an upgrade, those moroso ones look like they are the top of the line.
