Changing the pan and pickup on my 426W. Pan is off but the pickup seems very tight in its threads. I put a pipe wrench on the tube and applied lite pressure. It's not turning. Any advice? How tight are they supposed to be? Looks like there is some sort of sealer maybe on the threads. This engine has about 5k on the rebuild. Thanks, Charlie.

They usually are not that tight. Might be loctite on the threads. A little heat from a propane torch may help.

Yes for sure, I guess I'm trying to show that perhaps there is some kind of sealant at the threads making removal difficult.
Thats why I suggested heat if necessary. Myself I would try cranking on it a bit harder.

I think trying the heat is a good ideal.

Are you putting heat right on the block/tube?

You should be able to heat it up good with no problems, sounds like the pickup will need to be replaced. Dont know why they made it that tight.

I pull mine of a 16 year old sitting engine with no problem. engine was from 1970

Or the threads could have been F-d up and it's JB welded in.... Keep trying heat and a big Pipe wrench.
