I have been running VR1 Racing oil 10-50 but, I am looking for heavier weight. What are you other racers running for oil? Reason I am asking is I have installed a low pressure oil light on my car 2 weeks ago and I have seen some oil pressure drops at the end of my run comming off the throttle. I was told that my oil may be the issue 10-50 may be to light for 70 degree weather.

Wow,
I'm certainly NOT racing yet (1963 Max Wedge Polara clone soon)
BUT: Valvoline VR 1 10W 50 oil is pretty thick too me!

Brad-Penn 20-50 in all My engines..7 quart pan...windage tray..High vol pump

More questions.....are you running a high volume pump? How many quarts in the pan and is it baffled? I ran 15-40 in mine and no issues crossing at 7300.

Royal Purple 20/50 in mine . Though I also recommend Brad Penn 20/50
And yes bearing clearance , pump type , pan type and volume all make a difference . I use the Milodon road race pan . Good oil control plus plenty of pothole speed hump clearance

All the above,, maybe ur sensor is too sensitive??

Sounds more like an oil pan issue or the pickup is a little to far off the bottom of the pan

You are uncovering the pick-up. Thicker oil won't help. What type of pan? Pick-up? How many quarts? Mine runs a Charlies 10qt pan with only 7qts. It is baffled, has a swinging pick-up, and a sprung trap door. If it goes down to 6qts, pressure will drop on a hard brake stab in the lights. You may be able to add a slight amount of oil. You do run a dipstick, right? 5/30 synthetic, bearings were very good at 300 passes at 65psi.

I agree with Doug you are uncovering the pick up on decel. One thing to consider when choosing which oil to use is what type of camshaft you run...if you are using a solid cam zinc content is very important. whichever brand you decide on make sure it is what you need to properly protect your engine. I run a solid cam and use Amsoil Z Rod 20w-50. There are a few other brands of oil with high zinc content and Ive ran them all, but Ive stuck with the Amsoil for the last couple of years...the fact Im a dealer may have something to do with it...lol.

Mine flickers the oil light at the end of the quarter with 7 quarts. Stock type pump . It seems to be fine with 8 quarts. Brad Penn 10w40.

I agree with Doug and Al, pickup is being uncovered. I've run Charlies 10qt pan, duel line swinging pickup, VR-1 20-50 Synthetic, ran into same problem with heavy breaking after shut down in the traps. had a 30 lbs pressure switch on a idiot lite so I was able to shut it down in time, the pump lost prime when it was uncovered, towed it back to my trailer I thought I lost the pump drive of something. It looked fine, used a priming tool and the motor primed . After that unpleasant experience I installed a Moroso accumulator. use it a pre- lube for every start ,and never had oil pressure issue again. I use one on my street stroker with a milodon 7 qt pan, external single line static pickup system with windage tray, and a accumulator for pre lube. check out video

It's my bad on that I do run 20w50. Just drained it this afternoon. Filter and fresh oil in the morning. I like that accumulator idea

How much oil was in it? Did you add extra? I also run a acumulator but it is not turned on during the run. I use it for pre-oil only.

I have yet to measure it but, I will and let you know.

I have 2 new accumulators I'd part with. A 3-quart Canton and a 3-quart Moroso. I never used or needed them. I've always had instant oil PSI on start-ups.
