Old Glass and New Glass advice

Not quite to the glass point but getting close.
I have had all the old original glass stored in the shop since teardown. After exploring and reading about restoring old glass I don't believe I will try it and instead get all new glass.
First off is there any need to keep the old glass for purpose of comparison or such? It does take up room and would be nice to get it out of the shop.
What is the better aftermarket new glass? I would like it to be etched and date coded to look original.
 
Reproduction glass should be compared to the originals carefully for matching dimensions. Like any reproduction.
 
People that ask questions on forums often forget to mention what CAR that they have. This matters because some models have very little aftermarket support, some have great support.
Some of the glass on the market is thinner than the original stuff. Some of the side glass is curved less and does not fit properly. I've read that some 68-70 Charger door window glass does not even fit into the vent window channel.
 
I would still keep it to compare to any new pieces you may buy. Aft is just that..AFT. And not always "exactly" correct
 
You need to go into the forum " search box" and read all the different posts
about people here on the site having issue's with specifically AMD glass, as it is a little thinner in (thickness). Guys here having trouble with their front
windshields leaking on the 68-70 B-bodies and so on. I agree with post #2
original glass all the way... plus remember, these cars were once used a everyday drivers, family cars, and went through all kinds of abuse from when they were new vehicles! @Dodge33
 
Contact ECS and tell them what you need.
If it were me I'd keep the original glass until I was fully content with the new stuff, then I'd put the OEM pieces up for sale.


Oh who am I kidding...I'd most likely stick the old glass up in the garage attic with all the other car crap in there so I have more stuff to trip over:rolleyes:
 
I just used AMD on all my 69 charger windows and they were fine. All except the windshield.
 
Aftermarket glass in my opinion is not that great.
Several windshield replacements (not all on my own cars) and we have found flaws of visual distortion in some spots.
Not bad, but disturbing because you know it's there.Bites when paying upwards of $500 (sometimes)for a windshield.
Yes we have had to send back and wait for replacements of SIDE glass that was cut wrong. Various vendors were used.
 
I'm of the opinion that the original glass is going to be superior to new glass. Quite a few threads where guys run into issues with replacement glass that just doesn't fit.

Unless someone sandblasted your original glass, keep it.
 
On a 68 Valiant I did the 0000 Steel wool and cleanser called Bar Keepers Friend.
Had some wiper marks that weren't too deep. Lots of elbow grease. You can use a buffer but do not let it get the glass too hot as it can make the plastic center of the safety glass bubble ! That's if we are talking about a windshield.
 
New 68-70 charger windshield really fit poorly I just helped put it in for friend...all modern glass is Chinese , wavy, poor fit and not impressive.
