Getting closer to painting my coronet/bee tribute. The color I am in love with is PB5. Chrysler color on a lot of dodge trucks from 2000's-2010 I believe. Problem is, the paint is approx. 500.00 a gallon in Diamont, and 600.00 plus in Chromabase. I need at least 2 gallons to do it right. I have a baby coming in October, so I am trying like hell to get this thing painted and moving under its own power because I know time/money are going to dry up quick when the baby comes. I am seriously considering using off the shelf 99k black PPG premixed for 129.00 a gallon and good DuPont clear. That will cut my paint materials cost in half. Another option is use cheap base (Omni) and a good DuPont clear or Euro base clear to seal it and have it last. Opinions?

I have used Omni (now shop line) and then used the more expensive clear over it with good results. However if you have to fix any mistakes or repaint anything down the road the Omni wont match up very well. Will always come out lighter or darker for me. Even coming out of the same can. My paint shop said that this is why most body shops go with the PPG brand. I had to re paint my rear quarters on my bird and I tried twice and it still don't match.

dreamcatcher I agree I've switched to Du Pont Chroma base and Nason clear coat. I works very well for me

Thanks hemi 1, I am looking for something different to shoot. PPG has priced there self to high for us do it yourselfers. Last car I priced out for a blue was about 700 a gallon.
