In about a year or 2 i plan on re doing my whole car and going a new engine and gearbox among other things.

I would like to boost it, maybe twin turbos or twin pro chargers.
fuel injected
manual car

weight would be a major factor in this choice.

what would be a reliable, powerful, cool factor and light.

open to all suggestions.

Hey benno,is your charger right hand drive? Australias car seen looks really cool and fun.I hope one day I can afford to go there.
I know this might be a lame question but do you have a budget on the engine your building? Only reason I am asking is I have built a procharged 440 ,procharged gen ll Hemi and I am building a gen lll hemi now that is going get a little spray. I can help with figuring out costs.
My vote would be the Gen lll after building one.Not going to save money over the 440 r/b motor. Smaller but make a crap ton of power when boosted.The gen ll would make the most power But holy Crap they are EXPENSIVE!!LOL I could have built two or three bad *** 440's for what I got into my gen ll hemi.

still left hand mate, I am still unsure on which motor to go with, there is a guy with a cuda on pro touring forum with a R5 motor and twin turbo, I was thinking of that option, 2nd choice would be a gen 3 hemi. I like the idea of an aluminium block also.
there is no budget no. here is my plan.

in about a year or so I am pulling everything out that is currently in it that I will not be reusing, should get around 30-40k hopefully I am getting a brand new chassis designed then I will make it and remove old factory chasis and flooring, install new chassis and weld body to it with custom floors, firewall and engine bay etc.
I will buy the block, tranny and diff of whatever I choose so I can mock everything up etc. and just take my time building it over probably 5 years while I am studying.
I want to build a one of a kind street fighter charger, twin turbo big motor, manual box, full 1 piece chassis with top end suspension custom everything while still maintaining stock outside appearance. I want to be able to street drive it and then take it on the drag strip and also circuit racing for fun.

I am asking for peoples opinions on what would be the most optimal choice for the engine for what I want.

Awesome!!! that's how I built my Charger. I can't wait to do some corner carving this summer.

Hey benno, I am building a Gen lll 5.7 I did all forged rotating assembly and 6.1 cnc Ported heads.I left it at 345 CID I wanted to see how much power I could pull out of a 5.7
I am sure you have some friends with the Gen lll. But if you have any questions on them or the Gen ll let me know.
Thanks,Joe

Benno,

What Box you planning on? I believe that will be your constraint in drive train design. Engine choice is to match that.
Don't forget a raised aluminium block R5 is also an option,
P7 heads flow more than G3.

For me I love a 605CID G2 hemi with too much NOS. Simple and effective!

No idea on a transmission yet, open to suggestions, it wont need to be a harsh drag box.
I see aluminium gen II blocks are pretty much same price as the 440 aluminium, all the price must be in the heads etc. yeh?

to consider these thing what would be a good choice:

* weight
* most power to weight
* cost
* reliable
* easy to find parts for

there is a valiant here in Australia purely a burnout car that runs the R5 engine and he blows the tyres off sitting on 9500rpm for the whole run. and they are a cool looking motor.
really unsure which direction to take

The heads are a little more than a good 440 set not a lot.
The Rockers is what costs on a HEMI. This rocker system is $3200.00 Its made by T&D for Ray Barton.
I have the stage V heads CNC ported intakes and pocket ported.I want to say I paid 4800 for the heads and porting.
The pistons are more $ My pistons were $1200.00
The manifold I have was 800.00
It just adds up. You know how it goes

thanks mate, looks like an ally block is that right, I might just take this route. twin turbos would be nice on something like this

Just a bit of lateral thinking,

Leave the charger as is, you have a lot of money in it.

Get a early 70s A body like a Dodge Demon they cheap and light as. Build a race chassis and drive train. Run a R5 P7 (raised block) 410 CID. Besides the AL block part are available and relatively cheap.
Run a BUILD (straight cut gears) A833 with a quick change rear end.

You will have a light, stupidly powerful and simple street fighter!
O and it should have better aerodynamics than the charger.

My opinion would be to perfect what you have simply because it's already an animal and you already have a ton of money in it (get it dyno tuned). But if you must it would be a no brainer for me............... a Hellcat drivetrain T56 and all. After installing a T56 I wouldn't consider any other route "freakin sweet trannies"! My second suggestion would be to not install twin turbo's, if your like me and like to tinker having an engine compartment so full of plumbing that it resembles a kindergarden playground doesn't sound like much fun to play with and would go the supercharged route for sure.

I think your nuts Benno.

guys my car may look good in the photos, but the chassis is almost paper thin, have had to weld fish plates in many spots as I am worried it will break haha. paint has fine cracking all through it, previous guys welds on the sub frames and other hidden areas are disgusting, gearbox needs replacing, some thing I have done I am not happy with. I don't want to waste anymore money on a different mopar, don't really like any other, I want this one to be perfect and as I imagine every day.

once engine and plumbing is in I hope to not have to tinker with it too much mate haha.

I assume with all the $$ Numbers floating around you can add a healthy premium too since you're in Aus and this stuff is much more readily available in U.S. Even I get beat up on pricing in Canada and I'm right next door!

I can relate Benno I feel like everything I'm doing with my car right now (aside from engine plans to procharge my stroker) will eventually get blown up and completely torn apart in place of body stiffening/ suspension upgrades and a complete body job.

Love your car man! If you look at the power Joe has squeezed out of his it's hard to not consider going the same route as him (his dyno #'s are nuts!)

Whatever you decide it will be crazy that's for sure!

Hey Benno, Yes this is the world aluminum Hemi block.I think turbos would be awesome on a gen ll. If you go with the Aluminum block couple of things to think about.
I found out that hydraulic roller lifters don't work well with the aluminum blocks do to how much aluminum stretches with heat.All of your lifter adjustments need to be done when engine is at operating temp.
Also on my world block this coolant hole on all four corners needed to be plugged as you can see it will leak into the lifter valley by going around the sleeves.( I know this from experience)LOL
Other than that great block.
There are a few companies that make them.Just showing the simple fixes that I wasn't told about, in case you get a world block.
Thanks,Joe

Also,When I took the 440 out I used everything I could out of it to save money.
The stroker kit I had in the 440 I put in the Hemi.I had the Hemi block bored to 4.36 and Bought custom Diamond piston and rebalanced the crank.

I am sure you are wanting to start over.Just in case that can be done.

Maybe the money would be better spent on something like a Schwartz chassis ? That would solve all the faults you listed.20k ready to go. Wish my budget would allow that.

I voted R5 but just to have something different, than everyone else might have,
BUT having never built any,
I'm not sure how much more it would be or how much hassle it would be to get stuff...

My second choice would probably be a tie between

the "all aluminum" RB wedge w-twin turbos or big Centrifugal Super Charger
& the
gen 2 "all aluminum" Hemi if you have the $$$/budget, super cool factor

the gen 3 Hemi's are cool too, but just not gen 2 cool,
just IMO, sorry not meant to offend anyone

not that I wouldn't love to have a forced induction
7+ ltr gen 3 "all aluminum" hemi either

any of the :headbang:"all aluminum combo" would be great

For a turbo specific build, i would probably lean hard towards the 6.1 block. They have oil jets that shoot oil on the bottoms of the pistons for cooling purposes. That is a major plus in high pressure high temp combustion chambers
