Don't forget to consider linkage.

I put a Gear Vendors in my 340 (now a 416 stroker) with a 727 and a Slap Stik shifter. The floor shifters have linkage that bolts to the transmission tail housing. A GV unit replicates this mounting system so you can use all stock parts. If you go with a 518 I don't think you can connect your floor shifter without modification. Not sure how hard this is but still something to consider.
Linkage on the 727TF and 518 are indentical and interchangeable. 518 is a 727 with OD bolted to the backside

I'm not talking about the shift or kickdown linkage linkage that goes into the valve body.

The Slap Stik floor shifter has a bracket that bolts to the tailshaft as shown in the picture below (just below where the speedometer connects). A 518 transmission doesn't have this.

Now I'm not trying to say this is an insurmountable problem, but the stock Slap Stik will not work with a 518. I've never modified one to work with the 518, so I don't know if that is an easy problem to solve or not.

I wasn’t aware of that lack of bracket. Thanks

Sorry for reviving an old thread but looking to add OD to an R/T. I used PATC for one of our non Mopars so will try either them or Silver Sport. A friend did the Silver Sport in his 70 Challenger and loves it.

May as well put an LS engine in it as well as the POS GM transmission.

I guess it depends on how one uses their cars. We have driven ours in 27 states and Ontario. Also done the Hot Rod Power Tour 15 times. The speed limit is 85 on some interstates. It sucks to be driving the coolest car but getting passed by every Hyundai and Kia on the road.

The LS is a great engine! I have a LQ9 6.0 waiting for something, not my charger though!
