Looking for some help identifying my 68 or 69 Charger. Car does have a vin on the dash that says 69 but it’s not matching to what’s on the radiator support. I read somewhere that X was not used in VINs until 69. Also read that radiator support and trunk lip partials were not done until 69. My car has 68 style side marker lights and also has 68 tail lights but the tail light panel had apparently been swapped two owners ago. No fender tag either. Could really use some assistance here or a good reference to read up on for future reference. Any help is appreciated.

It's a 68, the VIN won't match the body stampings or the Fender Tag... The number on the Fender Tag & body Stampings is the VON (Vehicle Order Number)

X was used and indicates Charger
8 indicates 1968
B indicate it was built at Hamtramck

Agreed .... a VIN 6-digit serial number never starts with a zero. :thumbsup:

You have a 68 car with a 69 dash and tail lights in it
A former owner was probably going to build a general lee out of it
Any orange paint on the car ??

OP says the taillight panel was swapped, but it has 68 taillamps ? The core support appears to have blue color underneath.

They should of said the dash and title were swapped 2 owners ago. You have a 68 shell with a 69 dash and title. Not good.

You checked this out and STILL bought it?? You might have a stolen '68 registered as a legit '69. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted out as to who did what and why.

weld over that number and fuggetaboutit

there is no way to link that 68 stamping to an actual vin without a build sheet

I read somewhere that X was not used in VINs until 69. Not true. 66-70 for the Charger.
Also read that radiator support and trunk lip partials were not done until 69. Also not true

68 radiator stamping;
