FBBO Team,

So in a recent thread I was introduced to the elusive, "Charger, Road Runner & Superbee restoration guide", by Paul A Herd. Well, that is one tough sucker to get for under $155 bucks. So, not wanting to pay that, I called a dude I know at Half Price Books who works directly with the publishers and he is going to bring it up on their corporate forum. In essence, they may be able to get a custom run in a reprint! It would be about $60 bucks a copy, but lord it would be worth it! I'll keep you posted.

I have this book in the ebook from google. For the most part it is a good book but it does have a lot of misinformation. It is not worth the $155. plus IMHO.

Agreed, a lot of misinformation. I'll sell mine for 30 plus shipping

Hey Plowman! Could you give me some examples of the "Misinformation" so's i don't ruin my 50K car? Honestly, I'm in the middle of a resto and don't want to purposely
do something that won't easily be able to fix later. Thanks!

We do not have enough time or space on the Internet to list all of the mistakes in the book.

The problems start with the first paragraph of chapter 1 and continue throughout the book.
The errors continue in paragraph 2 where they list the WS29 Coronet R/T Hardtop as well as the WM29 Super Bee hardtop.
second column of Chapter 1: 71 Charger 500 listed as WP29 instead of WP23.
71 Charger R/T listed as WS29 instead of WS23.
68-69 GTX hard top listed as RS29 instead of RS23.
Continuing in column 2 "...R=Plymouth". R= Belvedere/Satellite model line or Plymouth B bodies. Not 'Plymouth'. P was used for Plymouth full size cars.

There are at least six errors on the first page.

Shall I continue with page 2?

"383-4v V-8 in 69 Charger is coded G while 383 HP is coded H"...wrong.
Text continues to perpetuate the incorrect info that H in the VIN = HP engine.

68-69 383-4bbl listed as G code in the VIN

So in the first page and a half of the book, we have these errors. I've found countless errors regarding my car.

Do you want to pay $***.00 for information on critical restoration details from a person that can't even describe a basic VIN decode?

Your choice.

what are you restoring? Depends on the car. The car I restored is a 70 super bee. I always ask question from some of the top restorers of these cars, and get a,concesus if there is doubt. Are you doing an O.E. restoration? Some plants did something's a little different than others also. I just put my book in a shipping envelope to a guy that bought it on this site so but the above reply,is just an,example. It does have some good stuff in the book that a person can use. When I was getting judged in Chicago at the muscle car and corvette nationals they tried to deduct for a painted fuel pump and I argued that it did and the back up on that was Frank Balason so they put back on the points. The best way is get your answer here for any question.

You can do a search on moparts on this subject to get more answers. I have been banned from there so I can not look but there was a lot of discussion a few years back on the errors in the book.

I'll just stay here on this site it is better anyways. I should of said poop instead of the, other word but I would of probably, got banned for that also, since it means the same thing

I bought my copy for $24.95 new 12 years ago and still use it today. I guess my Charger is not correct if that book has that many mistakes...lol. Oh well, too late now, who cares i'm not going for any judging anyway. I'll just drive it and enjoy it.

My feelings on the matter are that it is one of the more complete reference guides out there, but having said that, I also use this forum and other intel when looking up parts and values.

Anyone try the book put out by Dave Wise? He is suppose to be as accurate as they come since his dad owned a dealership.

I got the Herd book and it helped me way back when i was restoring my 68 hemi RR. It is not that accurate but its a good reference book.
BTW I am banned from Moparts too.

I used the herd book a lot just for a,reference.has some good detail pictures. I think I'll take a survey on how many people has been banned from moparts. I wonder how many people they have chased away period .
