I have a spare Pertronix coil in my cabinet that I used when I swapped my points out and
ran a Pertronix ignition module. Can I reuse that coil with my new electronic ignition? It’s 40kv at 1.5ohms. My current Accel coil is on its way out and hoping to reuse (or at least test) the pertronix coil.

And do I still use the ballast resistor?

Tested both coils (ohms):
Accel 8140C primary test 1.1,
spec is 1.4
Secondary test 10.5,
Spec 9.2.

Pertronix flamethrower primary test 1.5, spec 1.5.
Secondary test 9.5, spec 10.6.
Are these coils any good?

Resistance is only part of the story. You need to know the inductance and if the coil breaks down at high voltage. Without special equipment you can't really tell definitively.

I run 3 ohms (1.5 coil + 1.5 resistor) in my Pertronix electronic ignition. They say you can remove the ballast and run 1.5 ohms but there is no harm (and it's actually good in reducing the stress on the IGBT switch in the module) and I saw no performance or signal difference on the oscilloscope with 3 ohms (coil + resistor) or 1.5 ohms (coil) total. Then again I never rev it past 4000 RPM either. The only real benefit is if you wind the snot out of it. At really high RPM 3 ohms limits the current enough you can't get the coil charged up to full potential in the time frame between firings.
