Looking at adding a phenolic spacer to my 440. Weiand square bore single plane intake with a 750 speed demon carb. Thinking 1/2" thickness, as hood clearance is not an issue. My question is what one is better the square bore one or the 4 hole one? Any pros or cons to either? Price is the same for both. Thanks Jason.

4 hole is only good if your primaries and secondaries are the same diameter.
I agree.

You don't need one of those fancy ones either, mine was less than twenty and works perfect. What brand are you thinking of using?

Gorgeous car Jason!

I just purchased a 1/2" 4 hole because I read that they are better for street use (low end torque). Something to do with the air/fuel swirling through he holes.

Beautiful car!

I hear good things about phenolic spacers. I ran one of those aluminum/gasket/aluminum/gasket "stacks" with the top piece of aluminum being quite a bit larger (supposed to "deflect" heat away from carb). I had to trim the big plate to clear the vacuum nipple tree on the back of the manifold, but it worked well....just another option, but phenolic should be fine.

If you have the hood clearance try a 1" or 2" spacer. Depending on what kind of intake you use, you could see real power gains wide open throttle with an open spacer. If you have a hi rise large plenum volume intake like a Victor, then it may not make much difference. But a small volume single plane intake like a holley street dominator could use the added volume afforded by a spacer. I'm not familiar with the weiands so cant comment on those specifically. try them all, they are cheap and easy to swap.

The Holley phenolic spacer is made of a hard plastic material, and the Edelbrock is made from a Nitrile rubber with wood fibers so it compresses a bit and seals a bit better than the Holley ones in my opinion. I went with the single hole, 1/2" one and it works great.

Thanks for the replies guys, I picked up a 1/2" one, square hole, off of ebay for like 15 bucks. If it isn't enough I'll move up to a 1" spacer.
