I haven't seen that statistic. It was 6.4% in 2020, then two years into covid it climbed to 9.9%. I haven't seen anything more recent listed.

It's been reported in the news for about a year now.

Of course, you might not see the real stats being reported by the government-subsidized MSM.

EDIT: It could also be pointed out that, according to the "official" stats, apparently not much has changed since Covid. Poverty claimed to be not much different from 9.9%. And yet, food bank visits hit a record high of over 2 million visits in 2024, an increase of 6% over 2023, and a 90% increase since 2019, when Covid happened. Tent cities now exist in all Canadian cities. So, I don't think we're seeing status quo happening here. What you see around you may be quite a different thing from what you see in statistics (reported, if not actual).

With that article leading off with words like "suggesting", "maybe", and "estimating", I don't see any hard facts. I can imagine that the numbers from the food banks might exaggerate some claims over Statistics Canada to gain more donations.

Yeah my business used to donate to the local food bank extensively, both in time and material contributions. Then I found out the person in charge was pulling in $10k a month in wages. A bit disheartening when you think you are helping the needy.

Just look at the proliferation of tent cities and homelessness in any city here, that didn't exist even a few years ago. It's reality. There's all the hard facts you need. But yeah, let's suggest the food banks are gaming the system instead.

Yes, I had even shown pictures of tents in Vancouver a few posts earlier. In the Vancouver regional area there are (latest numbers I could find from 2024) almost 12,000 homeless, which is a distressingly large amount. But against a population of 2.7 million is very small percentage. That is a hard fact.
