Pie tins gone CRAZY!

My car should have orange. It will wear red just fine. The one I have is a red 440 magnum that was glued down so it now sits under the Plymouth one I got from classic. Reasonably I could just get another breather and somebody I’m sure would be happy with the dodge one.
Can you shoot me a picture of it?

Funny thing happened to me the last few weeks. I am building a 71 GTX clone and started looking for the correct air cleaner. I read how hard these have become to find and the ridiculous prices on eBay.

I found an ad with two SC pie tins for sale on Kijiji. Talked to him and arranged the deal. He lives 10 hours North from me but it’s where I travel to work regularly. Grande Prairie Alberta. So he tells me about his 67 GTX. Beauty car. This leads me to believe these will be red tins. Deal made nonetheless. Along with a passenger mirror for the 66 Coronet.

Later that week I find a 6 way seat for the Challenger. I go to buy it and what is hanging on the wall? An orange 440 SC tin and some GTX emblems! Convinced him to sell them to me because I will be putting them on a car and he is OK with that.

Later yet, I decide to put my 69 unsilenced 440 Magnum air cleaner and plate up for trade on kijiji for a 71 with or without a tin. Get a reply to my ad after about a week. It is a 70 breather, I’m ok with that. But the guy lives 10 hours away. Guess where. Yup. Grande Prairie Alberta. Guess where I’m at. Yup again. Just made the trade and picked up the other two red…..oh wait…..orange tins! One of which is a NOS Mopar Performance part in the box!

From none to 4 in a couple weeks. 3 have minor flaws but are good for my driver. Can you imagine the luck of that. Lottery tickets? No point now.

Fred's got his original pie tin still. It ain't pretty, but it's presentable.

@Dan Hinton if you are looking to buy one post a wanted ad in the Marketplace forums. Your wanted ads will be deleted here.

Someone was making these for CI to sell. CI may still have a few amount of the 383's left but they don't have any 440's left. Their warehouse is so large they may have just located some extras. Again you won't know the true situation of most of the different engine sizes unless you call their 800 #
I’ll know about the orange 440 ones. I’ve been on the back order list for two years.

These were starting to be made in approx. 1966. In 1966, production costs of most items were very low to make. The 60's were significant years of manufacturing growth. Mopar started adding these pie tins to the 67 models and ended use of them in the early 70"s. The number of muscle cars being made exploded during these years. So how many years ago was that from 2023 ??? Next with the rising costs of things these days ............Can you IMAGINE HOW MUCH MORE THESE WOULD COST TO PRODUCE AT "TODAYS" MANUFACTURING COSTS ? The companies that produced these way back when did not save all the molds, etc. to make these again ! What company would ..... to have the space to keep something like that that most likely would never be used again.? Again its 2023 now.....that was back in 1966. How many years ago was that? A licensed Mopar Producer has told me that it would cost them $50K JUST for the beginning cost to produce them and that doesn't a per piece commission to MP yet ! Now sadly to Add.....how many of our Mopar brothers driving those cars from the years of "67 - 74 are still around let alone in the market for a new pie tin for their air cleaners? It hurts me to write this but sadly it is the truth.

Indeed it is 2023...make them out of carbon composite and put a wrap on them of your choice. Add some flair with LED lights!

Maybe somebody with a 3D printer could bang these out and then a decal or vinyl wrap for the win. Better than no pie pan or a 500 dollar one.
