"Please S T O P saying this" thread.

"My point is that there are phrases that many people use that can be seen as tired, over-used, pointless and redundant"......................... Back to personal opinions.

wonder where the cliche sayings come from , but when they arrive i hear everyone spitting them. it is annoying!

That may come under the N.I.H. rule.....an old Alcoa Aluminum Conpany, upper management favorite expression, when they wanted to slow walk a decision.......Not Invented Here.....translated: if they didn't think of that, it can't possibly be worthwhile.....

What annoys one person may entertain another.
A lot of people were turned off by Dennis Miller's schtick.
I liked it, though he often spoke with terms FAR OVER my head. That was his downfall when he was one of the hosts on Monday Night Football. The average NFL fan just didn't get his humor and may have felt like DM was intentionally trying to make them feel stupid.

I hear some of the "corporate speak" from the Wife. You white collar guys know what I mean...the terms that the PR dept thinks up to to but a nice bow on a situation.
Why say acoustical fidelity when the word sound will still work for the situation?
I think that in some cases, people like to show off their education.
Hey...I can understand that. I loved to be the new guy on the construction site and rush to do jobs better and faster than the other guys. EGO is a powerful motivator!

Dennis Miller was my favourite comedian for a few decades, if Dave Chappelle hadn’t come along he would still be my number one.
K.D. is right in that the football crowd was the wrong audience for him.
I still have some of his old stuff on VHS tape. Every few years I fire up the old tape machine and am transported back to a time when comedians were allowed to be funny.

I thought back about how Dennis Miller used to have "The Big Screen" segment of his HBO show. He'd post pictures and make comments about them.
He was an early MEME creator, albeit verbal.

There are things that I have said and phrases that I will never stop using. I'm a creature of habit and I like it that way. I can add, but I will never subtract, that would be an eraser to all the good times I don't want to walk away from. Lives been good to me so far. Smell what I'm saying.

And yes, as a good Canadian I end paragraph with “eh!” It is overdone but we do it.
But American T.V. shows never get our accent right. They always give us a Wisconsin accent. In my
63 years I’ve never encountered a Canuck that sounded like that.

the worst - blah blah blah , ya know or ya know what i mean or ya know what i’m sayin ? next up - bla blah blah , right ?

like....like....like...like... KNOCK THAT **** OFF!!!

Proof the mind is NOT in gear but the mouth is!!!

I know a guy that says that. His son picked it up from him as well.
Yes, it is annoying.
I suspect that those that say this think the following: They are fast-forwarding through boring parts of a story.
Maybe so.
Remember the saying "Long-Story-Short" ?

Did you just yadayadayada me?

From our car hobby:
"Barn Find" Really, is it now? It was in a real barn and you found it. No one knew where it was.
"Survivor" Oh, really? What about how you replaced half the drivetrain and put a new coat of pant on it?

From youtube:
"Abandoned" Oh wow, someone just threw the keys in the window 5 years ago and walked away from that muscle car? But it was in their garage and you bought it from them?
"Restored" So you buy a car from some guy that is in his garage, put it on a trailer, power wash it and put a new battery in it. "Restored".
"Budget build" Of course by budget they mean $5k in bolt ons and "their buddy" painted it for them and the aftermarket rims must have been laying around with new rubber already on them.

A humble suggestion, if you find a word or phrase that is "tired, over-used, pointless and redundant" and think it's worthy of posting here, why not also post a word or phrase that means the same thing but isn't "tired, over-used, pointless and redundant"?

My ears catch stuff "like" you no- -monotone with up tone pauses with every phrase/fraze?

Also what's up with -for example- the word phonetic. Why is it --of all words- spelled rong??

And liquids SOAK into absorbent materials as opposed to being "absorbed into" the material.

When one uses a-preventive measure- to be correct, they are also using a -prevenTAtive- measure, and in either case it is correct.

Please excuse my punctuation issues kause I never got past my grandma problems with this language.

That is an excellent suggestion. That sort of thing would be great.

A certain ethnic minority uses “you know what I’m sayin’” like punctuation. I remember watching some half wit (football or basketball player?) being interviewed and he was using that as a complete sentence, sentence after sentence. It was complete gibberish. Finally the interviewer just loses it and shouts “No, I don’t know what you’re saying! Just say it!”
