I have a '73 Satellite 4 door with a 318 2 bbl and I want to do a factory appearing tune up. What color plug wires did the factory use on the 318 2 bbl engines? I got the car from a friend of the original owners family and it has orange wires and a blue distributor cap on it now. I saw a 340 Road Runner picture on this site that has blue wires but my "googling" skills must be lacking because that's about all I'm finding. The car has 77,000ish miles and is mostly original and I would like to keep it appearing that way. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you want to go that way with all blue, and it may have been mine that you saw, and if it was, I am using Moroso Blue Max wires (MOR-72650) with a Standard Brand Blue Streak Coil (UC12X) and a Standard Brand Blue Streak Cap (CH409). I just like the blue theme under the hood.
Here is a picture that shows it during the build.

I would so make that car into an ADAM-12 replica in a heartbeat! :)

It would have black wires with orange boots, check e bay or a nos set for around 60.00

What are you doing with the vinyl top? going to remove the whole thing?

Also, ADAM-12 went to AMC Matadors in '72!

Thanks for the replies. I'm guessing that the orange wires and tan cap wins. I thought the earlier cars (prior to the engines being "Chrysler blue") had the black wires. RT4ever the previous owner started removing the vinyl top. It's a Florida car, no rust on the bottom but the humidity took its toll on the top. I cut the loose vinyl to drive it until this winter when I can take it the rest of the way off. Then I can treat the metal and do some repair work. It will eventually get paint and the top replaced.

Orange wires and tan caps as far as I know.

Black wires went to the wayside in 73 when electronic ignition became standard equipment. Points systems used a capacitor in the distributor which was eliminated in 73. The orange wire were resistor wires to eliminate radio noise. The orange color was to make sure some shop techie donot install nonesistor wires.

I still think the 340's had the orange wires, a friend of mine had a 73 charger he bout in 1982 with 75k miles on it, with the original black factory wires, I have a set of nos that are black came in the original box marked 1973, for electronic ignition, a set of orange wires for a 340 will fit the 318 as you know. The orange wires will look sharp though, enjoy your Mopar!
