POLY guys CHECK THIS OUT!!

I said they were based on the hemi block, that doesn't mean they were the same.... if they were the same, I would have said so. There were differences as you have mentioned but not enough to make the interchange of a lot of major (and minor) parts a problem. Back in the day there were a lot of Polys (converted to hemis) on the strips simply because it was a lot cheaper to yank a Poly out of a Chrysler in a wrecking yard and convert it than it was to buy a hemi. That is one reason they're a little hard to find now days. Too bad really, as the Poly did have performance potential but was largely overlooked by the aftermarket for some reason.

The biggest thing I like about BOTH blocks is their ability for overbore. Course, sonic testing is still advised, but nine times outta ten they can go WAY out. lol

I think by that time, the B engines had come on the scene, plus the later polys were eclipsed when the LA came to fruition. But I agree wholeheartedly. Had the poly stuck around, it couldda had a fine performance history......and sorta did. They DID make a dual quad 318 poly. It was not slow.

It's beyond me also why one would want to put Poly heads on an LA engine. If I ever see dyno sheets on a successful project, maybe I would support it. Here's a photo of my 359 cu.in. 392 hp. Poly stroker.

Dude, that's just smack full of awesome coolness.

Very true. There are a lot of 354 hemis out there in hot rods that started out as 331's. Back then Ma Mopar was casting pretty thick blocks and the only thing you really needed to worry about when a big over bore was planned was core shift.... hense the need to sonic check the block. I almost did that with the 331 that's in my deuce but was able to score a nice set of +.030 stockers so I didn't have to go further than that. The 331 I put in my 53 Chevy pickup cleaned up at +.040 and I already had a set of those, but I was still tempted.

I'm lookin for a set of decent .030 overs for my 331 at the 1955 compression (8:1) or higher now. Like maybe some old Jahns or somethin. Know of anything?

"LA" heads on a Poly block pictured.

That is correct, your not an authority, but you did just call me a liar.
What I would gain from doing so is beyond me.
Oh, by the way, suck a twizzle stick.

B.S. on my part?

Good link by the way.

No B.S. on your part - you seem to know your stuff.

Best bet is to keep an eye out on e-bay for something like that. I'm fresh out of early hemi stuff. Used it all up on the deuce. They're expensive engines to build and after two in a row its time for a break. I do have a complete 400 B motor and an NOS 400 block along with a nice 440 block, forged crank, an extra cast crank and a couple sets of 906 and 452 heads, but I'm saving all that stuff for my 64 Polara. Haven't decided exactly which way I'm going to go with that one, but I have been toying with the idea of maybe an 03 or newer bone stock Viper V-10 coupled with a 5 or 6 speed Tremec. However, I have plenty of time to make that decision. Have to finish our new house and my new shop first so that's at least 18 months away.

That's awesome. For whatever reason, the pics didn't show up for me till now. Badass.

HotHeads has basically the same pistons at the same price I might add. Nothing cheap about early hemis. :icon_confused:

Absolutely. I knew goin into it that it would not be a budget build, but rather a long term build. Disability doesn't buy much at the time.

No kidding. I kept track of every penny building the deuce and I've got $7025.05 in that 331. Tri-power, Isky cam, lifters, springs.... the whole nine yards. That's just about a third of what the whole car cost to build. Had over 5 grand in the one that's in the pickup. It was quite a bit milder.

Love the Avatar car and pictures there Centerline. Nice ride.

Check this out. This is my induction. Two 350 CFM GM 2GCs on a two one barrel high rise fire truck intake. Since it's a wet intake and I HAVE the thermostat housing too, that kills several birds with one stone. It'll look cool as all snot in somethin. Whatchyoo reckon? Is that total badassary or what? lol

Definitely a pre-55 intake and old school for sure. Should look awsome sitting on top of just about anything. :hello2:

Can't figure out how to post a video here so here's a short clip of the hemi in my deuce with the tri-power setup.
