I am currently running a dual plane offenhauser intake on my 360. It is bored .040 over with 340 X-heads, heddman hedders, dual 2.5 exhaust with flowmasters. Hooked up to a 4-speed with 3:23 sure grip.

I am not happy with the intake at all, however have not ran to many different cars and dont wanna just blow a bunch of money on intakes to see what one is best. I am happy with my Carter 4bbl.

I am not a fan of edelbrock, but is that the best bang for my buck? (yes i know edelbrock is 'virtually' the same as my carter, as they bought them out, but i have had bad luck with their intakes and cams in the past)

Or is scrounging the local craigslist and swap meets for a single plane street dominator or weiand X-cellerator (provided its not cracked or warped) best?

Anyone suggest for or against springing for the mopar M1 intake?

Had a deal goin for a low deck dual 4 intake, but not very practical for a daily driver/street car with minimal track time... Street legal drags are about the max.

If I could afford it, I would love to just get the aftermarket small block 6pk set up, but a little out of my reach.

thanks for your input

Whats wrong with a Performer RPM dual plane? I've never had a problem with Edelbrock intakes. I'd think dual quads would be a little bit too much carb for a 360.

Just out of curiosity what about the intake are you NOT happy with.... is it an RPM thing, a low end torq thing...a top end thing..etc etc...there is an actual "FEEL" difference between a dual plane and a single plane, and some of it depends on the cam your running, and how the heads and cam are set up to work with each other...some of the time just the addition of a 1-2 inch riser will make a noticable difference.. remember the taller the intake the more ur fuel and air will have a chance to mix ...what is the effective RPM range your looking for...single planes are usually effective 2500-3000 rpm and up, and dual 1500 rpm and up...dual planes, flow wise flatten out at 5500 -6000 while single planes will flow well beyond that range 7000 and up..I know its all a little confusing...but just what is it are you looking for performance wise..?

Im looking for a little more top end. Not so much low end... I had an edelbrock torker 340 manifold and it fit for sh*t. could never get it to seal up right. My brother was having similiar problems with his performer, and I do not like edelbrock makes everything "universal" if you look at the new intake it has provisions for way to much stuff and looks kinda crappy to me personally if you just start pluggin em up.

and whats with 2 different sets of thermostat housing bolt holes? personally, i was just never happy with that company...

i think im gonna go to a single plane for the higher operating rpm.. didnt know what people thought of intakes, if someone had good or bad experiences or what. I dont really wanna waste my money, paid $100 for the offy and not that it was a waste persay, but deffinately would of kept looking.

I just like getting some different opinions and am new to the site, not to many mopar guys in the area... and most of em are all about the big blocks, but yet i would like to be able to afford to go on a cruise, thats why I stayed away from the dual plane. I to thought that even if i get to small 450cfm, it would still be a b*itch to tune...

almost got it to adapt 2 2bbls, but didnt think it was worth it.

I've got a Performer RPM and an Edelbrock 750 on my 360 and made 280 RWHP with an XE 274 cam and stock heads with oversized intake valves. This combination was still pulling pretty strong at 6200+RPM. I just finished cleaning up the intake ports and bowls and port matched the heads and intake so it should be even stronger. I'm also running 3.55 gears and a 904.

Since you decsribe your car as a "daily driver" I don't think you'll be happy with the single plane intake. It might make a little more top end HP but you'll likely give up a good bit of low end torque which is more important in regular traffic.

BTW - Did you by the torker new or used? If it was used do you know if it had been modded in any way? If so that's probably why it wouldn't seal. I bought mine new and because both the block and heads had been surfaced the intake needed some trimming at a machine shop. That's not the fault of Edelbrock it was the engine, so now it likely would not fit most other engines out there without some work.

well sir if your going for the top end the single plane will be the way to go, but your bottom end will be sacrificed noticebly...it will be absolutly GREAT for inter-state driving and the 40mph stomp and romp...but if your going to do any stop lite to stop lite bangin..you will notice a lack of balls so to speak out of the hole... unless you plan to launch at 2500-3000 rpm..at the start of the power band of a single plane intake..personally I use the weiand intake with a 1 inch riser, and gasket matched intake mani and head ..and picked up 25 horse off my base line with just the riser and I'm running a fairly large cam, with alot of duration and ,254/[email protected] split duration, but I also degreed my cam in at a 104 ctr line to help add a little of the bottom end back into it...Good luck with your choices I'm sure you'll get it sorted out and start enjoying your 360...like I do mine

I appreciate the info. I live out in the middle of nowehere, and and to get to any small towns, is at least a 1/2 drive at 55.. To get anywhere worth going, is at least an hour on the interstate. Also why I went with the 3:23 sure grip and sold my 3:91 set up.

again, thanks for the info... little cold to be enjoying it where I live at the moment, but the shop keeps the snow off, has a heat, and I can still tinker
