Popping cutting out at WOT

That sucks. Be careful with oils today with flat tappet cams. They have taken the zinc out of oil for emission puposes. If you use an off the shelf brand of oil make sure to use a zinc additive ( ZDDP ) or use an oil with zinc in it Joe Gibbs Hot Rod oil or something similar. Or..............go roller cam.

So I pulled the cam out today and the lobe is toast. But... the front edge of the cam bearing looks a bit chewed, the rest seams OK and there is no scoring on the cam journal. Ugh. So any advice guys on what to do next?

The rest of the cam looks great, all the lifters look great, inside of the motor looks clean. Why would I just lose the one cam lobe?

I have a magnetic drainplug, not sure if that will do much good.

Thanks guys!

Hell could be anything. Insufficient spring pressure causing the lifter to smack it around, just a bad lobe that didn't get hardened as much as the others in the manufacturing, poor oiling.

How much you wanna spend? If just the minimum I would go with new springs/lifters/cam (close to the same size you have) and be done with it. But if you have the coin and the inclination now would be a good time for a total refresh or get that stroker you might have always wanted. Your call.
