I still hold the New Zealand F.A.S.T. class title with my ex '70 GTX. There were only a few cars competing at the one and only meet ever held here....but that is immaterial. I have the trophy in a box and that's all that matters. Beat a '70 Cuda automatic trans with a 6BBL in the final showdown. Was only running a low 14 that day, but I was a good few car lengths in front crossing the line.

The criteria were really strict - the only exception allowed was you could run more modern tires, but all 4 had to match - and no fake DOT 'stickies' allowed. Absolutely stock condition with full interior and spare in the trunk etc.

Again, I am absolutely AMAZED and greatly ADMIRE those who put together stock-appearing 11 second, even low 12 second cars, ON 70 series tires!!
THOSE COULD PAY FOR THEMSELVES in "street races" or at the track, if you bet money and "popped the hood".
I'm telling you, back in the late 70s early 80s, "the street scene" in New Orleans was fairly hot, and CASH WAS WON AND LOST!
It's already a WINNING HAND to pop the hood and see:
Factory air cleaner can
Factory intake
OMG! FACTORY EXHAUST MANIFOLDS!?!
then top it all off with 70 series bias ply factory appearing tires!!!
MONEY MAKING MACHINE!!

Do they do a bubble test/cid limit test ?
in F.A.S.T. classes

I'm wondering how many cids ? it ain't 383cid
not at near 4,000#s fully dressed
505cid or 535cid++ (?)
4.25" 0.100 over 4.35" bore (or a 0.030" over 400 block, or more)
x 4.25 stroke (525) or later X 4.5" stroke (535)
with "stock appearing"
cast iron intake & exhaust manifolds/heavily ported,
heavily ported & very trick cylinder-heads
& Hi-$$$ valvetrain, I'm sure
highly modified carb, it may "appear" to look 'stock'

roller cams do sound a lot more docile at idle,
especially compared to FTs
on off-the-shelf/over-the-counter type grinds
I wonder what cam ?
custom grinds I'm sure
for that intake, exhaust requirements
wander what's done to the ramps & duration ?

what converter ? (is there a rule)
what clutch ?
if a clutch, do they let you use a hit-master or something like that ?
what cam ?
do they allow rollers, rockers & camshafts ?
what gears ?
what's been done to the shocks ?
& still looks to be stock, serious re-valving or hiding under shields
what mods are allowed to suspension ?
(as long as it appears to look like stock)
what's been done to springs/torsion bars ?
what compound is on the tires ?

alum driveshafts, alum rear carriers ?
just painted to look like steel/cast iron

hardware everywhere lightened, trick materials ?
titanium or aluminum where applicable ?

let alone 700+hp
to sound stock-ish at idle (by the rules)
especially with .770-.800+ish (?) gross valve lift

on a F70/15 bias-ply (sticky even at that)
impressive #'s

Cubic inch is 499”. The limit is 560” but have you seen my intake?
Car weighs 3550 with me in it currently tho I look to drop it by 100 lbs this off season.
My intake has had a lot of work done to it my exhaust just port matched and flapper valve removed.
Heads are mildly ported with 2.14-1.81 valves.
I run a custom solid roller cam, not huge in any way.
Currently running a PTC converter that comes in at about 3000 rpm.
Rockers are Harland Sharp 1.6s.
Shocks are QA1 double adjustable both front and rear painted black. Well the fronts are. I’ll get to the rears.

Front uses /6 bars. Rears are still the factory springs installed in 1968.
Tires are off the shelf g70-14 Firestone redlines.
Chrome Molly driveshaft with 742 case 3.91 sure grip.
Made 570/590 on the dyno at the flywheel.

:luvplace:

nowhere near as much as I figured it was
weight or motor
I would have thought 'sticky' compound tires too
nice combo
I figured there is some slight of hand, tricks going on
Impressive

:thankyou:

As long as it appears stock, ported intake & exhaust manifolds, aluminum drive shaft painted black, and dozens of "tricks".

We don't exactly fit the FAST rules but locally run some Nostalgia races and true street stuff that requires stock steel bodies, no fuel cells, oe glass, stock style suspension. Lots of butthurt to go around, let me tell you! For some reason Pontiac guys are the worst! Runs 11.1 n/a and 10.0's with a little spray and drive it all over.

Most impressive small block car I've seen in a while. F.A.S.T. legal. Yes it's the car on the right side of the time slip.

I'd see a car like that and be in trouble if I didn't take him seriously!
I'd NEVER guess 10s with those tires!!
Should I take hope in hooking with my 572 if these guys can hook with 70s?!?

I love the F.A.S.T class racing. I am seriously considering building one of my cars to start running in this class.

Dodge 330. Your stocker stalker is awesome. That engine shot sure is like three card monte on Times Square. It will fool fools every time.
Thanks, man! I'm a huge fan of your car as well! We have some upgrades in the works for Winter...
