Power Tour; where do I start and any other advice

When Car Craft[ rip] was around, Jeff Smith put on the "Anti Tour". Low budget deal for everyday people and rides. Went from LA area cruising to various spots then ended at the Morro Bay car show. Wish I could have partaken in that.
Always wanted to do that, very low key. This Western Power Tour is a Motor Trend gig. Be interesting to see how many participants being it’s a Monday through Friday deal. And let’s not forget the temps.

I still need to pack up clothes, meds, toiletries etc but otherwise ready to roll Sunday morning. Will pick up my friend in Atascadero Sunday morning then head to Pomona.

I so wanted to do that. My car is ready, was ready to do the 5 hour drive to Pomona and beyond.
Then….i got a work thing going on where I need to be in LA all next week. I even miss Friday at Chandler.

Have fun  take lots of photos...

Stay safe, watch out for other drivers...

I'm also taking two 5gal fuel jugs. There isn't poo for fuel between Indio and Havasu. Been on that road before with my dually. It is pretty neat out there though. There were at least two monuments commemorating Patton training in some places out there.

Depending on the route, top off in Indio, Chicaro Pass, Blyth, Quartzsite, Parker. Hopefully they take the route on the other side of the river, Arizona fuel is cheaper. Expect to pay upwards of $5.00 a gallon or more between Quartzsite and Havasu.

I'll fill the jugs up in Indio. Waaayyyyy cheaper there than AAA on the highway.

Made it to Pomona. No photos yet, waiting for the iCloud synch between the phone and Mac. The hotel here wanted to either bomb you with junk mail/promotions or pay for the wifi. The desk finally relented and gave me a promo code to use. Paris doesn't need any additional money from customers. We did early check in at the track already, go back tomorrow for the festivities. Should be fun!

Technology finally caught up! Left my place at about 6:45, was very happy it wasn't socked in like the last two days. Great sunrise shots. Got Darren in Atascadero, topped off the fuel and picked up a bag of ice, then off we went. There is a gut here from Buckeye Az with a 63 Plymouth, name is Roger. Will take a pic of his ride and any other REAL cars[ ha!] I come across.

More. Smokey Yunick tribute car. A little u-joint action on the Cuda. Turns out he knows Darren[ in the chair] and is from Fresno. Took him to the parts store to score another joint. Will caravan with him and his wife, plus some other Mopar types to San Diego tomorrow.

More. As part of the VIP package, thank you Darren, we went to the museum. Catered dinner, very tasty and some way bitchin rides. There was a big picture of the Ridge Route Terrors, aka Warren and Coburn/Rain For Rent on one wall and I was wearing their t-shirt. Very neat there. Many old cars/names I remember from days ago.

Did Lucky show up with his Chevelle? That thing is a beast

I think so. Since I don't watch any social media, "reality shows", have no high digit tv service, I don't recognize many of these people. I have what's left of their paper publications, so when there is a face there it helps. I did see a cluster of people together at the track and last night, Freiburger was easy to recognize[ flip flops] and there was a red oxide primer 66/7 Chevelle there.

Got down to San Diego earlier. Smooth sailing all the way. I was rolling along between 55 and 60 keeping the r's and fuel consumption down so around Corona and Elsinore we got left behind. No biggie as I know where we were going, spent over half of my adult life in so cal, so when the group took the 76 west to Oceanside and 1-5 south to 805 south then the 52 east back to the 15, we beat them. I already know that area and it's boring, at least to me. The coast area where we currently live is light years better/more scenic/less populated. Going to hit Phil's BBQ for grub tonight. MMMMM!! Tomorrow we head east to Indio. I'm doing half of each route on the directions. 1st half up to where I used to live, see some friends and show Darren where we lived before, go past there some then cut north and catch the other routes last portion so Darren can see the Palm Springs/Palm Desert road down the mountain. From there, get to Indio for the next gathering. Supposed to be some Autocross going on. Today's gathering was just a hangout. I had some fun with the owner of the Cuda. Asked him if it had a bb Chevy. Can you see why?

That would be Luckys car

Today we went to Indio. Since I used to live in east county, we did a modified route compared to what the tours was doing. Stopped for grub in Ramona, got fat dumb and happy there. Roger topped off his fuel then we went by where I used to work at to see my friend Bill and the owner Randy. Randy took pics of the rides and us. From there, went to see my friend John in the park we used to live in for 22 years. After that, head to Santa Ysabel and hang a left to head over to the other route. Saw several others along the way. We stopped at the view spot off of the road down to Palm Desert so Darren could see the windy road. Several old movies and tv shows used that road for a backdrop. Just past that we stopped to check on the blown Pro Street guys from back east. The guy with the green Dodge had overheated his rear brakes coming down the hill. Drag race brakes are not the thing to have for street stuff. He'll remedy that after he gets back home to Minnesota. Will be one of his winter projects. Going to leave here early in the morning to avoid as much of the heat as possible. Next stop, Havasu. My wife told me it was 66 and socked in at home. 102* here when I did a screen shot at 2.
