just curious but what does a 18 spline A833 4spd go for these days i just aquired one out of a 68 GTX along with the bell housing and console shifter?

Is it in bolt in and go condition or will it need to be gone through? If it's the later I would say around $1,200 or so and add $600 if it's ready to use. My .02. I've sold one 18 spline and several bell housings over the last year.

I think Matt's estimate is a little high. The standard 23 spline can be had for between 250-400 in good working order. I bought a one year only (1976) cast iron case overdrive last year for 50 bucks. It's perfect inside. That's an exception because I think the ODs usually go for around 150-250. Look at it this way. You can get a NEW Richmond 4 speed for between 1200-1500 bucks. Why the crap would somebody pay almost the same for an old one? Now, if you happen to find that one person who has the exact car it came out of, then maybe that's a different scenario, but what are the chances of that?

Are you trying to get value/prices/worth to sell the A833 18 spline tranny, console shiter & bell housing B-Body 4 Hemi speed set up ?? or are you trying to convert your car to a 4 speed car ??

Matts estimate was for the 18 spline which i think is pretty close which is what the OP asked about.the 23 splines are a dime a dozen.

Does this new richmond come with all the xtra's to change back to a 4 speed from a auto, how much to add everything needed to get it up and running do you think? Mine was a 4 speed from factory but someone changed it to a auto.

That conversion stuff isn't cheap, flywheel, clutch pressure plate & disc, throw out bearing, pilot bearing/bushing, that is even if the crankshaft is drilled properly, trans tunnel bump, z-bar, peddles, fork, rod, springs, linkages, mounts, boot, etc., look at Brewers Performance or Passon Performance to get an good idea on what all the missing pieces will cost, some at Mancini Racing also... Good luck

I just completed an auto to 4 speed swap. I love it, it's totaly different driving,it's waayyy more fun, at least for me. I have a list of parts you will need. I can post if you are interested.

Budnicks is right, that stuff is not cheap. If you are not in a hurry, instead of buying an expensive kit, find the parts on your own. It took me about 2 years to find everything I needed and saved some $$$. Just a thought.

thanks for all the replies. im not putting this 4sp into my car. i'll be putting it in the for sale section soon. 1st gonna try to get some pics uploaded, should have it up later today

Sure that would be helpful, and where did you get your parts, wondering if it would be worth the shipping?

sounds like my plan too.

I got my parts from Ebay, Brewers, Passon, Craigs LIst, where ever I could find the part I needed. If the part is priced right, then the shipping is worth it. I made my list for a '68, from different sources on the web, a restoration book and a service manual. If you need the list, I will post it.

I guess it depends on what part of the country you're in. Last time we went to the swap meet, we got 2 18 spline transmissions ready to bolt in for 700.

I found mine on fleabay. I prefer the old original printed manuals to the C/D manuals Less room for error.

I will post the list tonight. I agree with Rusty, ebay is where I found mine too, plus a printed manual is better when working on stuff. It's all right there in front of you, don't have to go back to computer and printer for answer. Besides who has a computer or laptop and printer in their car when working on it.....

4 Speed trans swap

Here is that list of parts I needed for the auto to manual swap. Since your car already had a 4 speed, some of the parts my still be in the car. I decided to go with the 23 spline instead of the more expensive 18 spline (Hemi) trans. I am not drag racing or taking my car to the track. I also have a mild built 440. That trans is strong, so I should not have any problems. Others may not agree but that is ok. It all depends on what you are going to do with your car. You might still even have the Dana rear end. I believe all 4 speeds came with this unit. If it has a hex type cover with bolts on the back of it, it's still in the car.
