Hey, just wondering if you guys have any feedback, good or bad on Promax?

Was thinking about sending my carbs to them. I've talked to them on the phone a couple of times to ask about their services and my initial impression was they don't offer up much in the way of information (just seemed difficult to talk to).

If you just want them rebuild and operate correctly, look up Phil Fish. Great guy to deal with.

Dominic thumper on Facebook is the go to guy when it comes to carburetors. Great customer service before, during and after the sale.

I had Phil Fish do a complete rebuild on all my carbs. Nice guy but without the engine what’s the point. I had to retune them myself anyway.
Bought a Promax metering block, car ran horrible and was unable to be tuned anywhere close enough to keep the engine running.
Holley did things right, just learn to do it yourself or find someone close to you that can tune them for you on the engine.

I rebuilt my carbs myself using Promax Metering Block and outboard jettable plates. Car runs awesome. I gave them the cam specs. and they set up the center metering block with the emulsion plugs.

A friend of mine used their stuff and loves it. (I noticed his metering block and mine are different.)

I bought mine from them about 15 years ago.
So did he, I got mine 2-3 years ago. He said when he ordered his they asked a lot of questions about his engine and tuned it for him. They asked me nothing, not even if it was a small block or big block. Maybe I just got them on a bad day. Either way I won’t call them again.

Depends on what you're after.....but I'd stay away from Promax. They burned a friend of mine and as well many members here have reported poor results. The fact that they're dicky on the phone seals the deal for me...
It's like dealing with Dave Hughes. These guys act like they're the only game in town so they treat potential paying customers like morons. No thanks.
For restoring/refinishing to concourse-level Bill Overcash is the best and was the go-to guy for 6-barrels. Harm's is very good as well.
Also look into Woodruff (site sponsor here.)

Promax metering block is just a BLP block with an additional $100 tacked on for adding some 6-32 set screws.... I use BLP blocks all the time on dominators. The promax fuel line is nice. Earls makes one now as well. I don’t see the need for the trick rear baseplate they sell if you use braided fuel lines. I just unbolt the rear carb and slide it back for idle screw adjustments. Can’t speak on their customer service as I do my own work. If they’re hard to talk to now I wouldn’t expect an improvement.

I’m a Harms fan myself as he has done work for me and I was very pleased.. there are many to choose from and it also depends on what you want... best of luck!

I bought the pro max metering plate and had no problems with support. Having all the orifices adjustable is probably overkill as I haven't changed any but if I ever got it on a dyno to do a complete tune it's there. One issue with the plate to watch for is that the power valve can it the carb body and cause a fuel leak internally and car won't run right. This was mentioned in the instructions and you have to file it down for clearance.

Well its a done deal, shipped them out to Harms on Tuesday. Ya, I know I can do it myself, but I have a hundred other things I need to be working on and have to use my time wisely. Thanks for all the feedback.

Sorry I'm late, and I wish you well.
I had Promax rebuild all 3 of my running carbs, add their parts, and dyno tune on their mule which happens to have the same 292/.509 cam my 440 does.
Very happy. Being a 1 man small business and the season I did it (about 3 years ago) having Ben at Promax do everything made sense.
