Question about 3rd Row Station Wagon Seat

Howdy all. Going to look at a 68 sport satellite wagon. It does not come with the third seat. How hard would it be to install one?
 
They could come as a 6 pass or 9 passenger...the vin will denote which one...3rd and 4th number should be 45 = 6 passenger, and 46 = 9 passenger.
 
Vin has 45 so a 6 passenger. So how hard or feasible would it be to convert to 9 passenger if I can find the parts?
 
68-70 wagons used the 66/67 floorpan so the spare tire well could be used as the footwell for the 3rd seat.

That will be there.

As noted above, finding a third seat and the mounting hardware may prove difficult

Actually... the spare tire goes in a well by the right side quarter panel. My ‘68, RH46 has a hinged door and a trunk under it, where the 3rd seat would be. I like that better than a 3rd seat but I can understand others wanting it.

The spare tire is mounted upright by the right rear taillight. It has a removable cover. On the 6 and 9 passenger. You are right. It is a trunk on the 6. You can see the radius for the tire here behind the rear wheel for the spare.

I converted my 1967 Coronet 2-seat wagon to a 3-seater by using all the parts I took from a junk yard donor. It was a straight bolt in swap. The 3rd. seat has a plain cover with no pleated design on it. I believe this was done so the rear seat was interchangeable between Dodge and Plymouth, given the relatively small number of orders for 3-seat wagons. I did this about 35 years ago, when you could still find good stuff in junk yards. My 2 kids were small back then, and they loved riding in this backwards facing " tail gunner's " seat.
 
I'm not discussing where the spate tire is stored on a wagon.

Can't specifically comment on 68-70 but the third seat in my 67 matches the other 2 seats in 2 tone material and stitch pattern.

Thankfully, it's in very good condition.
 
I like having the huge well/trunk under the false floor in my '72 Satellite wagon. Spare in right quarter panel, fuel tank in left quarter panel (don't ask how expensive THAT was to replace...), and a MONSTER space under the floor to hide things in college like a 12" sub and amp setup; cases of beer; tools to keep a then-25-year-old daily-driver on the road; spare fuel (wonky fuel gauge)....all out of sight. And I still have the 2-way tailgate (drop down, or swing open) with the roll-down window!

Agree with the above though - IF you can find the parts, they should bolt right in, no floor mods required.

It could have been a Canadian thing, then. My wagon was built in Windsor, Ontario. It also had a 318 Poly in it. We did not get the LA 318 until 1968.

You in the great north retained the better poly longer also. Our hay day was 61 and 62.
 
My 68 Chrysler T/C wagon is a 6 passenger car, and I have most everything to convert to 9 passenger, but I discovered that there are additional floor bracket for the 9 passenger that my car does not have. Not sure if the B-body wagons would be the same?
 
I had a 71 Fury Custom Suburban. There would be some differences in the spots for the hinges for the third seat, but that could come from a donor car as well. Finding a complete third seat in a rusted out basket case would be your best bet.
