You don’t need a temp log. Just run a digital temp gauge with a functioning stock gauge..like a 67 coronet has and you’ll find the old gauge will be right in the middle at 180…at 195 it will be at the very high of operating range..at 210 it’s pegged. And just because a 160 thermostat is used only means it will open around 160 but the car will, can, run at 180 plus depending on condition of cooling system..temp..driving conditions..etc. I run a 160 milodon stat on my 472 Hemi and down the road at highway speeds it runs around 170 but in traffic on a hot day may run as high as 190. Ran 440 wedges for years and have about 8 years on the Hemi. Old motors don’t like high heat and not designed for it from the factory. “Old geezer’s” used to take the stats out in the summer. But that was 65 yeas ago.
Funny to see this thread pop up after all these years. The car had went through many changes since then. That is back when I set the car up for pro touring. Since 2015 the car has resided at the track. No heating issues in a 1/4 mile.
… but yeah i see some 220’s went romping around then hitting traffic. i do run efi and just pay no mind to temps anymore or other gauges for that matter.
