A thermostat housing without a hose barb is worthless IMO. Just an accident waiting to happen. Why do you think just about all the companies who designed and made them put that barb on there? Hoses can compress after time, especially shortly after the initial install. The Corbin clamps keep constant tension the hose, and the worm gear clamps can at least be tightened. I doubt you could re-heat those heat shrink ones to get more tension as needed, and in some cases, it looks to be fairly difficult to evenly apply the heat. In the video, he shows the connection on the radiator being done. OK, easy to get to and no plastic shroud nearby. What about the other end where the lower section it buried tight against the engine, or a sensitive to heat area? What if you need to take that joint loose again for some reason? Can you just cut the shrink wrap, or is it now bonded to the hose? Surely the shrink wrap isn't reusable, so, another $6 in the trash. At least the $20 thermostat cover is reusable.
