Radio issues, help

I replaced the dash speaker on my 67 coronet with a retro sound speaker, which by the way fits great. Wired the green and black wires to the corresponding positive and negative terminal as indicated on the instructions. When I turn the radio on all I hear is static. If I turn the station dial the static just get louder or quotes down. Any ideas?

Sounds like the antenna cable is not attached.

I think I have the antennae attached correctly. I ran it through the right fender opening into the hole I saw on the radio. I inserted it into the hole on the right side of the radio. I don’t see any other options for where it could go into the radio. May the antennae is bad?

I would try a different antenna first. Could also be in the radio itself.

I did not check if it works before. I began restoring the suspension then steering, then engine and wire harness. I am on to interior now.

Try a known good antenna first. There should be an antenna trim screw. You can try to adjust it. Otherwise I suspect an internal radio problem.

There should be a trimmer hole somewhere close
to where the antenna cable enters the radio. The trick is to tune the radio
to a very weak station at low end of the band, somewhere between 550 and 600
KHz. Adjust the trimmer to best reception for that.

Sometimes an old radio after sitting the tuner can be problematic. It may help to just power it on and leave it on for a hour or so. As it heats up it can help the tuner come alive.

WOW... this forum has been a true blessing in the restoration of my car. Thank you to each and every one of you. I found the antenna trim screw underneath the tuner bezel and after adjusting it I began to hear some stations. I found a good classic station and just sat in there to hear the jams.

Tune the radio to any station above 1200kHz and adjust the trimmer for max loudness. Best to use a ceramic or plastic screwdriver. Don't twist or torque the trimmer, just gently rock back and forth may be 60 degrees.

I always used a weaker station and adjusted for the best signal. You also should make these final adjustments with the antenna installed and if adjustable the mast fully extended.
