Hey guys, I was just wondering if there are any really cool or really rare (or both) valve covers out there? That'll fit a 440. Please post a pic of them or a link so I can see them. There may not be any rare valve covers, I know it's not a super serious performance part, but just incase. I have orange M/T's on there now.

1 off custom fabricated ones are the rarest
I would say so. But I'm not looking for something someone had 1 custom made, unless it like a famous hot rod guy or something. But I'm looking for something obtainable. That I might be able to pick up at a MoPar swap meet or order offline or something like that.

These are what I have on there now.

Why not take those, have them soda-blasted, then use a wrinkle-finish black satin paint on them. Sand down the ridges and the letters. Voila! Classic '60s/'70s big block dress-up for little coin.

I don't really know the classic 60's/70's look lol. Not sure what wrinkle finish is either lol. Sounds cool though. I guess I just want something really cool that people hardly ever see or know about. Like the Long Horn Cross Ram I want to put on there. It's super rare and awesome looking. Just wasn't sure if there was such a thing as a rare set of valve covers. My dad has these brass looking moroso's with these long wing tip screws on his. Looks kind of cool. Is there a 1 up I can do him? Lol

Wrinkle finish is a black paint that comes in a spray can. Then as it dries, it wrinkles into a nice pattern that hides any irregularities in the metal being painted. Any paint store or even Wal Mart has it. The top cover of the can shows what it looks like when it dries. I think heat applied from like a blow dryer when it is drying increases the effect.

If those are the old aluminum MTs on there, you don't get much more old school cool than that.

Pull um off, clean them up, polish them out, re-paint/powder coat to the color of your choosing and run with them. Below are mine circa 1972. Freshened them up a couple of years ago.

I'm installing these "Cal Customs" on the '62 when the engine is completed. Remember seeing them on 1950's custom hot rods. Still see them in use today...

Check out Cuda Chick's business. She can take any valve covers and make them into truly cool works of art. If you want something unique do like Runner 68 suggests and then design a cool color scheme...

I'm going to a salvage yard on Saturday and I know he has tons of valve covers on the shelf. I'll look if you PM me with your engine specs.

I'm putting those on my '67. Are you polishing them out or just leaving them raw?

Don't they know how to take pictures in Kentucky LOL. Images can be rotated LOL. Looks to me like some redneck painted your classic Mickey Thompson valve covers LOL. Cheap stamped Moroso valve covers are easy to one up LOL. Put a little thought and elbow grease into it LOL.

They are getting polished but not to a mirror finish. Thought about painting in the fins but I think it would be too much color for me. Painted does look great on some!

I don't see many guys with these. Thank goodness!!

At some point a couple of years ago, someone on this board was offering billet aluminum MOPAR badges for valve covers. Not old school, but pretty cool.

Back in the day you could get clear valve covers and see your valve train move. It was a cool concept but if I remember correctly they were plastic and proned to leak. I would get a set of thick aluminum covers and hack off the tops, machine a ridge around the top edge and sandwich a piece of high temp glass or lexan between the valve cover and a nice thick flange. Drill, tap, silicone and bolt together. The glass might be the money part of the project being that it might need to be tempered after it is cut.

Actually the 1970 383/440 "ORIGINAL" STOCK valve covers are becoming hard to find!
Untouched, unmolested....
They are a "one year" only valve cover.
