Anyone know whether or not it is necessary to install the foam (white) splash shield gasket on the front drum brakes.
It is like the one sold at Jims auto parts. I have tried to insert a photo but something must be wrong on the site. BR-339 at Jims.

Mine is very aged and Napa does not have it.

If you have replacements, I would use them but I have gone without when I couldn't get them. ( I assuming this is the gasket that goes between the backing plate and the spindle - that's what it looks like anyway.)
 
Moisture and rust barrier. Chrysler actually cared about that in the day.
 
Detroit Muscle Technologies has them and at a great price! I am replacing mine since I'm doing a front end rebuild.
