Rear end question

I just picked up a car that was originally a 1969 sport satellite convertible. I wanted to determine if it has a Sure Grip or open rear end. I jacked the back of the car up knowing that if I turn one tire and the other turns in the same direction it's a sure grip and if the other turns in the opposite direction it would be an open rear end. If I turn either Tire the other Tire does absolutely nothing but both tires turn the drive shaft. I've not come across this before. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Put it is park so the drive shaft does not turn and then see what it does. Pretty sure its an open diff.

Non SG

SG will turn both the same way.

Could be a broke SG but my bet is non.

It does have disc brakes so I guess that could be it

Yes, 4 wheel disc brakes

Usually a limited slip will pull the other wheel with it through some friction, even.

A non- LS will not, but the friction may hold the other wheel.

If you want to be sure, you can pull the chunk and look.

Um, That's why I told him to do it. If the wheels turn opposite directions it would be open.

I used to be on board with lift the rear, wheels turn opposite = open, or wheels turn the same = SG. As you have found, different internal tolerances can make it hard to determine. but, if you lift one wheel off of the ground and can turn the wheel/driveshaft, it is an open carrier. If you cannot turn the wheel/driveshaft it has a SG.
