im going to swap my 9.25 to my 8.75 rear end is there a easy trick or any process or steps that i need to know i know i have to take leaf spring out or at least drop the rear down im going to repace rear spring bushings as long as i have it apart and repace pad busings on dif perch this doesnt seem tough been a few years since ive done this and ill be doing it alone

First off I wanna ask "why"? The 9.25 is arguably stronger. I'll be damned if I would swap it.

i like the 8.3/4 easy to swap gears never herd of a 8 3/4 breaking and possi r more available n parts too most people dont like the 9.25

ithought most people liked the 8.75 rears next to dana 60

nah mate the dana is the way to go, check out moser or strange for parts for them.

IMO id leave the dana

dana 44 or 9.25 all the same but whats wrong with 8.34 they used that rear for over 20 years idk y some of u guys hate 8.75 all of a sudden

dont hate them at all they are a great diff, just the dana is the stronger bigger diff was generally found in the big block and hemi cars.
id swap my 8.75 489 case for a dana anyday just dont have that sort of money anymore

google dana 60 and read up about it mate and then make your choice ill give you a carton of beer for your dana lol

arnt dana 44 and 9.25 the same? i dont have a dana 60 i realy wasnt trying to start a argument with this post just some help and info

A 9.25 is not a dana 44 and definitely not a dana 60. I is however stronger than an 8.75 and if it is original to your 74 RR with a 440 then I would leave it original. The 9.25 is not hard to find parts for. Randy's ring and pinion, strange, moser and other differential shops carry parts for the 9.25 rear. Mopar used that rear in most BB and HD applications from 73 and up so they are pretty easy to find. BB c-bodies are common to have 9.25 rears and you may find a suregrip as well.

To answer as to the ease of a swap. The spring perches for an 8.75 in a 74 have larger spring centering holes for the iso clamp system.

i rebilt compete rearend came off of a 74 charger that would work thought they are the same my car was a318 car and put a big block 440 with dual quads and pushing 600+hp its defiantley not a possi if it was a possi i wouldnt of messed with it in the 8.75 i put a 323 possi but now im thinking that i neet taller gears these will be to high of hears with my set up stall cam etc not im back to looking for a good possi that i can aford it does have the big hole in perch

i do know what a dana 60 is was just told that the 44 is the same as a 9.25 by a mopar friend

Are you sure the rearend in your car now is a 9.25 and not an 8.25 rear? I just checked Randy's ring and pinion and you can get a complete suregrip 9.25 carrier from around 400.00 to 700.00 range and ring and pinions from 321 to 456.

its looks like a 925 i guess how u tell the diff sure looks like a 925 though and thought it was but ive been known to be wrong once or twice

Here is the Chrysler rear axle lineup.

Here is the Dana 44. SLAM different than the 9 1/4.

The only reason people don't like the 9 1/4 is because they simply don't know. No way in hell would I swap an 8 3/4 for a 9 1/4 that I already had. No way. No how. You yank that 9 1/4 out and send it to me.

Maybe where you're gettin confused is the 9 3/4 and Dana 60 ARE the same.

i went out n looked at car n looks more like a 8 1/4 so im wrong but cant we all get along i wasnt trying to start a argumen w any one where u get that info for further use? im not saying i know every thing about mopars sorry if i upset somone thanks 4 every ones help today i appreciate it the cover looks a little difrent mine dont have a rear plug but it must be a 825

No problem! We weren't trying to argue, we were just giving you our opinions on the 9.25 and hopefully some useful info.

Now that you know exactly what you have, you can make a good decision on which rearend will work best for you. If the rear in your car is an 8.25, then swapping the stronger 8.75 rear will be a good choice for the monster you have under your hood.

I saw no arguement. WTF do people always use that stupid "can't we all get along" bs just when people are trying to give good information? Nobodys fighting here. Just say thanks.

Oh and just a little FYI, my boss had an 8 1/4 in his Demon for several seasons running low 12s down to mid 11s snatching the front tires leavin the line all with an 8 1/4. In fact, he never broke it. He swapped in an 8 3/4 when he went to a 416.

You guys have too much turkey and pie and now have a tummy ache, lol?
The 9.25 had a bad rap for along time cause onbody made crap for it but all the shiznazz is available for it now days. Good strong gear.
8.75 is the most popular cause of the ease to find and the quick change design. Also a good strong gear.
9.75 Dana 60 is the king of the gears but is most the costly.
8.25 is a good gear. My 97 5.2 Dakota has one. They make all the shiznezz for it these days.

OP if you have an 8.25 and can change to an 8.75 go for it. About a 2.5 hour job and if you have a good floor jack you can easly remove the rear without removing the springs. Even leave in the rear shackles. I do it be myself all the time and I'm a skinny dude.

going to tackle it tomorrow moparmarks and hinters of getting in in there w/o taking down springs? was thinking of putting in new spring bushing and pad bushings in while i have it apart n maybe tuch up the springs w some flat black paint too while in under there thanks again every one for there help hope every one had a good turkey day
