I need some help , weather getting close to being able to work on car, first project is to put my refurbished radio back in car.
I have already bought my dual front speaker.
Now for my question I want to run two rear speakers, the fellow who refurbished my radio , only gave these requirements 45 watts/output.
What can I put in the car, that can handle the volume because it will be turned up most of the time because the car is loud.
Second will I be able to fish wires under carpet without removing carpet, have you done this and do you have any hints to make job easy?

Thank god for the weather getting better! It's been one of those winters over most of North America. As for speakers, really a personal choice. One thing to keep in mind though is that more speakers are blown because of under power, not over. So if you are only pushing 45W/channel then a reasonable set of 2 or 3 way pioneers or equivalent will do the trick nicely. Had a set in my 68 Charger back in The early 80's. Sounded great but to but to be honest nothing like that big block rumble when you're rolling down the road so the pioneers got most use sitting in a parking lot wishing for a full tank of gas:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol: Good luck with your project. I' sure some other will chime in here with some of their setups, suggestions etc.

Run wires over to the driver's side kick panel. Remove the kick panel, sill plate and rear seat and you can tuck them in along with the rest of the wires going to the trunk area (tail lights, back-ups, lic. plate, etc.). That's exactly where the factory put the wires if you got the optional rear speaker. Yes, the option was for just one. The passenger side hole was actually for the blower if you got the optional rear defrost...a seldom purchaced option.

I have the rear speaker switch but not planning on using it, and I have no rear defrost. Ok I have never taken a rear seat or any seat out before I was hoping to pull wires, if I removed the old rear speaker wire ,I guess this may not be a good idea.

Taking the back seats out is fairly easy. The bottoms latch in two places on the bottom - push down and back on the front edge and it should pop up. Then you should see two bolts that hold the back of the seat on - take those off and lift the seat off the tabs in back.

Removing the bottom of the seat is really not hard. There is a latch on either side under the seat about 8 inches in from the outer edge, about 2 inches back from the front edge. Looks like this:

On the bottom portion (where your but goes) push down on the front edge of the seat and then back a little, and then lift up. You should feel it come out of its latch. then do the same to the other side. Once it's loose you can lift it out...it's easier if you remove the arm rests. To get the seat back out, lift the bottom outward then lift the whole thing up. There are hooks that it rests on. You will see all this once its out. Very basic stuff and should take but a few minutes to get them out. Once they are out there will also be a small pice of trim at the bottom of the rear side panel that will need to be removed (one screw). Now you can pull back the carpet along the edge and see the wires I was talking about in previous post.

Seat installation: put the seat back in a little high, side it down on the hooks at the top, then push the bottom in over the alignment tabs at the bottom. Put the bottom back in place and push back and down on the front part of the seat and it should re-latch in those hooks on the floor.

Hey Bryan, Make a wish list and when the weather gets better bring the R/T to my buddies shop on a weekend, we can put the car on the lift,do wiring ,headlight relay upgrades etc. Frank works cheap and is a Mopar guy.I have a pair of fairly new Pioneer 6x9,s if interested.

Sounds like a good idea, I hope the weather cleans up in the next couple weeks. As you can see I have a lot to learn, even thou I worked at GM in Oshawa for 38 years, worked on them(GM's) but not Mopars, so I am on a learning curve, I hope not to old to learn from people that know Mopars.

I and my son tried to remove rear seat, I know I am getting old and weak but my 34 year old son and I could not move the bottom front of the seat a 1/8 of a inch, must be a secret to moving it , will have wait until I meet some mopar people to show me this secret. Thanks for pic and help
Bryan

Doesn't have to be a Mopar guy. I believe all `60s & `70s rear seats were held in the same way...Mopar, GM, Ford, AMC...You gotta know somebody over 40 who has removed a back seat in these era of cars before...2 door, 4 door, station wagon...

If the car is drivable, drive it to an upholstry shop or body shop and ask. They would likely pop it loose for you.
