Does anybody know the measurements for a 323 suregrip with a 741 case. The car is a 68 GTX w/ a 440, 727 torqueflite. I need the backlash and the adjustment for axles. I would appreciate any information. thanks
I just changed the 741 case in my 69 Road Runner from 2.76 open gears to 3.91 posi. A Mopar friend said the backlash is .006 to .008 ". But I would double check that figure. My 3.91 was a little loose, so I moved it over 3 notches on the adjuster. Of course the other side needs to be loosened the same amount first. It then had about .040" backlash. And it works fine except a slight whine at certain speeds due to the change in tooth contact area. This was a used 3 rd member. On the axles I tightened up the adjuster until there was no end play on the axle. Then I backed it off 1 notch so I could feel just a slight amount of end play. Good luck
I have two PDF documents that are from the Mopar service manual for 8.75 rear center sections and axles. Everything you'll ever need to know.....
They are to large to post here, but if you PM me your E-Mail, I can send them that way...
