This is why I always recommend shops that are performance oriented to people. Most anybody that works at a shop like that races or has hot street stuff, so it's nothing new.
Also, I'll add this. ....and no offense meant to 440roadrunner when I say this, so please don't take it that way. Being a mechanic myself many years, I would have never gotten anyone fired over something like that. We're all human. So a fast car came in. They drove it fast. It's just not something I would have done. Not over that, anyway.
Sorry but if I bring my car to somebody I expect them to drive it calmly. Tires, gas, and clutches are way too expensive to be allowing prick mechanics the perks of destroying them rather then me. I personally hate taking my vehicle to dealerships or mechanics because of several reasons.
Reason #1: most of them are crooks.
Example #1: I had a guy try and tell me I needed a whole exhaust system because of a stress crack. When I told the manager never mind I'll go elsewhere magically the welding to fix the crack became free.
Example #2: Secretary at work was a repeat customer at a local shop, she went in for an oil change and they told her "they" screwed up her oil pan and it would cost her $400 to replace. After arguing about it she said no, Ill take it elsewhere...at arrival at the other shop upon inspection there was no "damage" to the pan. (on another occasion they didn't fill it with oil trying to ruin her engine)
Reason #2: They are arrogant pricks that do not take the time to listen to what you have to say. I had a leaking exhaust manifold and brought it to the dealer under warranty and wrote a description (since i had to drop it off) of how to hear the noise since it wasn't loud on paper and left it with the truck. After a couple hours of diagnosis I received a phoned call "there is nothing wrong with your truck". I talked to the mechanic directly on the phone, he did not read my notes at all and after explaining to him what I already had written 30 min later a new manifold was on order.
Reason #3: I have heard stories of drinking at work and I also know that they stretch a 20 min repair into an hour or more just to inflate the time so the dealership can charge that hour.
Bottom line I will do EVERYTHING I can to avoid a mechanics shop and if I have to take it to one they better treat my car well. Because I reset the odometer and check things before and after I go. Would gladly get somebody fired for frying my clutch.
