Just started up a 727 that I rebuilt. Got the oil level up but have not test driven yet. All seems good cycling through the gears except the trans has a very slight creep in reverse when revved in neutral. Any thoughts on this before I test drive?

Some valve bodys do allow this..... its pretty common.

I would double.....triple check the shifter linkage tho, just to make sure the shifter and rods are allowing the trans detents to remain fully seated at all points.

It's a Cope RMVB with a Cheetah shifter. Will check neutral detent/cable position again. Thanks.

Update: with trans lever positively in neutral, car still bumps back slightly in reverse when throttle opened.

Then John Cope will know something about it. Just a phone call away.

Clearance for low/reverse clutch is .035
Rear band is 72 inch pounds then backed off 2 turns.

It should not go backward in N. What clearance is in the high/rev clutch pack? A pressure check at servo ports will tell you if its a valve body issue. It shoud have zero pressure in Neutral at both servo ports.

dvw - it's a slight bump backwards only when revved in neutral, there is no movement at idle. I've never had a trans do this before. The high/reverse clutch is 5 frictions at .084
