Removing hood technique?

FWIW I'm using an A12 style hood 'cause that's what fits over the engine - don't give two shits about anyone else's thoughts or opinion. Its not an A12 car and I'm not trying to pass it off as one. And with the hood up it would quickly become apparent!



How would extensions attach and fit through the holes ?!?!?

I pull the hood on my 64 every pass. It's actually easier with one person. The only scratches after 12 years of use was when my brother in law (not a car guy) "helped me".
Just stuff your hands in the scoop, cover any belt buckle, pull it against your stomach, and lift. To reinstall just watch you gaps and let it find the pins. You don't need a hoist, fender covers, or a magic wand. It's easy. I am pretty young, 70.

YOU asked how to do it. I answered how I would do it.... IF I wanted to do that. I didn't say "I" would do it!
I posted what I did with my A12 hood.

The previous owners wife was a good seamstress and she used a Roadrunner/Coyote bed sheet and quilted it to lay on top of the car when having the hood off at cruise ins and shows.

My concern was installing the hood without killing my fenders and/or cowl panel. Removing the hood is easy for me. I lift it a bit from the front (NEVER from the scoop) and push my stomach into it to hold it and then reach around both sides with both hands and lift it off the car and place it on my roof.

Installing it was a much bigger concern. I went to Home Depot and purchased 1/2 inch PVC water pipe. If I remember correctly, they came in 4 foot sections. I cut 4 "locator" pieces for all 4 hood pins. The 2 in the rear are 5" tall. The 2 in the front are 3.5" tall. I made little slices on one end and used a propane torch to heat it to make a dome shape. See pics. When I want to install the hood, I simply slide all 4 plastic "locator" pins over my existing chrome ones. As I install the hood, I can't see where I am for exact location so the hood comes down and rests on the pins for a quick second. From there, I can see if I need to shift the hood left, right, back or forward. This prevents scratching/damaging my fenders/cowl. Once the hood is located properly, the hood fall into place. Then I just pull all 4 "locator" pins off and put the cotter pins in. Hope the helps.

Creative. Thanks. My concern and reason for the post is same as you reference. I don’t own one yet. Am considering but just being careful ahead of time due to physical limitations - ie being old
