I'm building a mild street 340 with Comp Cams valve train. Comp Cams say to remove the inner springs to break in. Is this really necessary? I'm not using a super high lift cam. Thanks.

I rolled the dice by not removing the inner springs once...:Groaner:

130 seat and 350 open and I thought it was right on the edge of necessity.

Mancini sells a tool (about $60) that allows you to pull and reinstall the springs with heads on the engine. You can do 2 cylinders (4 valves) at a time because 2 pistons are at TDC at the same time (the 180º method). No need to use rope or comp. air, either. Just use the tops of the pistons to hold the valves up. Just make sure you smack the retainer with a metal hammer and the pistons are at TDC before you begin each pair of cylinders.

ETA: Sometimes the damper spring is confused with an inner spring; those don't need to be removed. If you have a true dual spring set up then remove the inner spring.

Thanks a lot! Yes they are a true dual spring set up that I got from mancini. Again I do appreciate it!
