Repro brake lines on the axle or just buy generic from parts store?

If I was working on it I would cut the line with a hacksaw or sawzall right next to the wheel cylinder bend it away from the axle and flush the main line out before I install the new lines and wheel cylinders. Definitely replace the lines on the rear axle.
Living in rust central I've done bunches of lines.

Yeah I don’t care at all about correct in the factory correct sense of the word. Just clean and functional. I’ve done it once or twice before, most recently on a 1965 Karman Ghia that had a line bust as I drove down a slight hill. I have the crappy flare tool but one practice run and attention to detail and the flares came out fine.
And who knows I might get lucky and the old stuff will come loose like butter, this car tends to be difficult when I expect it to be easy and vice versa.

I also like the Nickel-Copper Alloy Brake Lines. I buy it bulk. It bends smoother and easier that steel and also flares easier.

And, important for my location, it won't rust! It is good insurance for the future to apply a dab of antisieze to the threads and, if using steel lines, on the tubing under the nuts!

Agreed the lengths are a bitch to bend tightly, Also the wheel cylinders if you hit them with say PB blaster and still tight the candle hot wax worked for me 95% of the time. bleader screws also!

One trick that that helps on all hard lines is to make sure there is a Z bend in the line (assuming it doesn’t have to be factory perfectly shaped) rather than straight. This gives a way to adjust the length a little.

I grabbed my wrenches and quickly slid under the car to assess the situation, turns out there was no problem loosening all the lines on the rear at all, at either end. I then tightened them up and went to work on the stereo
Just wasn't in the mood to do the brakes today.

If it was me I would get some of those lines at the parts store that are already flared in different lengths, and get one long enough to reach from the wheel to the tee for both sides. Use one end in the wheel cyl and cut and flare other end at the tee. That way you only have to make 2 flares on the easy ends.
