Does anyone know for definite if all 6 Pack 440's had resonators ? Or were they only mandatory on California and Canadian built cars. I have a Lynch Road built 71 Charger I'm restoring and there are lots of conflicting views on wether resonators were on the car or not. Of course my car was ordered with exhaust tips but was delivered with turn down pipes. ( unsure if resonators were on it at delivery ) I have a Canadian friend who has a unrestored 6 pack Canadian Charger with no resonators so all kinds of conflicting information. Just trying to see if anyone knows for sure and would pass that information on to me. Thanks for any input.

My car is a California car and it has resonators on it. However, it is not the original factory exhaust though.

I would suggest avoiding resonators if possible. A friend with a restored 69 Hemi Roadrunner put an Accurate exhaust system on his with resonators and they were rusted through in about 3 years and very few miles. The rest of the system is fine.

If not going for the factory look a cherry bomb/purple ***** style muffler work great as resonators at the rear of the vehicles to eliminate drone and noise.

My 68 Hemi 4-speed RR did the same thing. I couldn't keep resonators on it. It's long gone now, so no worries anymore.

I thought only the Hemi cars got resonators (?)

thanks for the replies and suggestions. Im restoring to the factory high end so be nice to know what Chrysler put the resonators on for sure. Of course Chrysler seemed to do nothing consistent back in the muscle days, but hoping someone will know for sure what resonators were required on.

Resonators were not Hemi exclusive Six Pack cars definitely had them too.....

Pictures below are from my 1970-1971 parts catalog...w/440 Eng., w/3-2bbl Carb. w/Noise Reduction Package had resonators.

The Noise Reduction Package is N97 and was required by the State of California.

The answer is NO. All 6-pack/6-bbl cars did NOT have resonators. Only if the car was equipped with the Noise Reduction Package. My memory is not that clear on the Dodge, but the Plymouth will have a different lower valance below the bumper for a car with resonators. The resonator car will have dual crescent-shape indents for the resonators, the turn-down pipe car will not.
