Guys,

We have my dash pulled from my roadrunner and I want to restore the metal frame.
I would like to send it to get blasted but I dont know what to do about the vin plate. I dont think I want the media blaster to mess up my vin tag...

Any ideas?

thanks!

Curt

i would tell whoever you have do the media blasting to not get to close to the vin tag or cover it up with thick tape.

Yup....and tell him to use the light stick formula tape. Guy that blasted my dash used the regular and it pulled half the paint off the VIN tag. Had to repaint it and then apply a new ink transfer "Chrysler Corporation" logo.

sounds good. So you dont need to remove the vin tag correct?

You can actually remove it for safety. Thats what I did. You will have to spring for some pretty expensive rosette head rivets to reinstall it though.Make sure you use them, otherwise you may be acused of VIN tampering.

No doubt.....Those folks selling those rivet's should by arrested for crimes against humanity with the price they sell them at.

Interesting. Do the rivets look original? I dont want mess with the vin if I cant get it back on and still look 100% original

yes the rivets are original looking, I didn't want to mess with the VIN so the media blaster covered the VIN tag with tape, All is well and the VIN tag still looks like it did before blasting. I was going to restore the VIN tag too but decided I wanted it untouched.

i know some people have ground the tail off the rivet and when the dash frame is finished they have used glue to reinstall the tag with the head of the rivets.

X2 on that thats the cheap cheap way I would go that route

Like some said above, Heavy tape covering the plate. Removing a VIN Plate is a Felony here in NY and I'm sure is illegal where you are located. Good Luck.

Thanks,

Yes..nothing wrong with that at all. I've seen people have to do this because of their current dash being rusted out. Way easier to replace the dash frame than to mess with repairing an old one.

Depends on who you know ;). No, I don't have any lol.

Saving the rivet head and gluing it back together as mentioned above works too.
