Rettig Brothers ‘63 Belvedere and ‘64 Dodge Car Hauler reunion

Many good races against that car. John offered to trade it to me for my 63 Dodge N/SS car. Stupidly I turned him down.
Doug
Doug, it’s great to hear from folks like you that have a personal story to fill in the gaps. If you have any photos they would be much appreciated. There were so many stories, true tall tales, secrets and darn right hilarious incredible feats my head almost burst. Thanks, Haywire 440

This Jack-In-The-Box antenna topper has a special meaning to some of us. But I can’t tell you, sorry. It displayed at the show, on the D-500, and the cool orange/red background is the upper wall of snack stand behind the car hauler.

The team of Reynolds & 0’Brien relax on the backside of the rig exhibit. They’re looking calm but we can all bet there’s a mental chess game that they’re engaged in. L00K, I See Smoke!!

We were next to good friend Denny Guest’s spectacular display of old & new Mopars. This Dart was recently finished to the 10th degree of perfection. Closely check out the American Flag headliner. WOW

These two 1969 Dodges were our neighbors. The concept convertible Super “Wanna” Bee won a Top 20 Award and is from the Chicagoland area. And coming in from Cleveland was this mind numbing ‘69 Charger that was cloaking a complete HELLCAT subframe, suspension, interior, dashboard and of course that Terrorizing Power Plant. Tim, you forgot to tell me if “you’s guy’s” won an award (must have). Fill us in if you see this. Peace V.

The “Tuner Show” was Saturday only and the engineering of the guys and girls rockets are futuristic and Fun. God Bless America. RC road racing held a lot of people’s attention, along with the gorgeous cars and loud music. I spotted the Stay Ill booth behind the kool Challenger and being from Illinois I thought it was a promotion for residents to stay. Boy was I wrong. It’s a kool clothing company and I chatted with a youngster who I called dude. He told me about the company and said Ill is Good. American slang, you have to love it and keep up. Thanks for the space forbbodiesonly it's been... Ill, sick, cool, awesome, far out, the shizits, bad, rad, gnarely, kicking, insane and trick. Haywire 440

These pictures are pre-show. Two things about these vehicles I forgot to tell you is
(1). the Omaha Orange paint job on both are 40 years old with only minor repairs. The gold leaf was touched up by Chicago Brushmasters Bob Behounek. Good friend Scott buffed out the paint prior to the show and the cousins hand waxed both car & truck.
(2). This combo will be at a show being held at the Rte.66 dragstrip in Joliet, in August. And on June 14th it will be Racing up at Union Grove, Wisconsin.

I believe I told this story before….

I drove the ‘64 car hauler, along as a passenger my great friend Pat, on the busiest Chicago Highway with Pat’s cousin Karen trailing, with Red
Emergency Flashing Lights, as a blocker vehicle. She was fearless!!

The gang of highway traffic Shot past us as we slowed them down while traveling 50 mph. The semi after semi after another were non to pleased at our pace. Honking truck horns serenaded us.

It wasn’t until Pat & I realized the 2-speed rear axle was in low gear. Oh crap.

We arrived safely and cousin Karen bid her farewell saying, “I’ll never do that again, don’t even ask!”.

My new nickname was Ironballs but that accolade should have gone to Karen.

We were Blessed.
