So here's the rub guys
All new wiring harnesses on a 1970 roadrunner my reverse lights stay on all the time I'm wondering if it could be the transmission switch. (4 speed) Before I replace it, thought I would run it by you guys. I have juice at the bulkhead plug both terminals when I turn the key on. Gear
selection does not matter.

First thing I tried. Lights go out. Just bought a new switch. Looks like a simple circuit, I'm thinking the switch is faulty allowing the circuit to complete. Appreciate any help.

When you unplug that's good Those switches are pretty simple and rarely go bad. I had to fine tune the throw of the reverse linage to get mine to come on, on my 69RR

Hope you get the right switch the first time. I bought a new one and it didn't work properly because the depth was wrong and the button on the end didn't make proper contact. It was an issue with the depth of the switch when it was screwed in. I soon found out that the sealing gasket supplied with the switch was different from the original in thickness and had to use the original one. Too thick and the button doesn't depress, to shallow and the tip of the switch body rubs on the rooster plate - not good.

Sounds like you got it but did you check the switch with a meter to make sure?

Is your issue fixed with the new switch??? If not do you have the 1970 only reverse linkage in place and adjusted correctly??? Does the collar on your steering column turn when the car is put into reverse??? If not you don't have the linkage hooked up and you may have to just turn the column because it's in the on position.

Thanks for the info guys, fixed the light problem. Thought I would have the tranny looked at anyway. Tailshaft was leaking at seal, yoke shaft was pitted bought a new one. Took the 833 up to Jamie at Passon Performance, Tamaqua Pa. . THIS MAN IS AMAZING.
If I've done anything right with this car it was doing business with Jamie.

He is the guy to go to, Rebuilt mine s few years back

So the actual problem was the switch, picked one up at NAPA screwed it in and worked fine. The transmission was the wrong one (1967) for the bell housing
(1970) and the bell housing was cracked in 2 places with 3 tranny to bell housing holes stripped. The tranny needs a new input shaft, input shaft bearing, input shaft tube, 3rd gear was cracked, new synchronizers, 2 new shift forks, side plate seals. I also needed a new throwout bearing fork. Jamie sold me a new bearing instead of the pilot bushing he wants me to install a bearing in place of it I've never done that before. The total bill for everything was $1,500.
